So if you set it to autoboot to the Wii SystemMenu how would you boot into PreLoader again?

I'm confused with the difference between PreLoader and BootMii. I have installed BootMii to boot 2 and made a NAND backup and I also have PreLoader, what is PreLoader used for (other than the awesome no health screen hacks, etc.)

hold reset while you turn on your wii and you be in preloader.

preloader is used for brick protection on those who cant install boot2, hacks, changing IOS settings, etc.

on your system it goes

bootmii>preloader>system menu

that what it looks for.

soo your extra safe.

Thanks for the help again, your starter guide was amazing. I can't connect my Wii to WiFi at my school which sucks but your guide was amazing for offline installation.

Hi.

I've recently upgraded from 3.3E to 4.1E so I can install preloader for some brick protection. I cannot install bootmii into boot2.

When I try to install preloader 0.29 I get the "failed to get ROOT, the current ios(36) has the fake sign bug fixed"

My current IOS36 installed is ver 3094

There is talk about this on page 11 of this thread and I just wanted to know what should be the preferred method of fixing this these days.
There are so many different pieces of information out there that I have read.

Also, what is IOS36 used for these days in a 4.1E PAL Wii?

wiibrew.org/wiki/IOS_History

Also, preloader patches IOS60 but the sysmenu also uses IOS60, so if this stuffs up does that mean you are rooted with a brciked wii? I keep seeing a patched-IOS60.wad around, not that I would install it.

Thanks

follow he trucha bug restorer from my guide to get rid of that error.

Yes preloader install within IOS 60 but rest assured it does not brick your wii,
check out the FAQ in my guide for more answers,.

Thanks xzxero.

Do I have to do TBR just for IOS36 only
or do I need to
Run TBR and downgrade IOS15 then run TBR for IOS36 and then restore IOS15 as mentioned in your guide.

This is where is gets all confusing.. I read this one before, another way of doing it....
http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=164426&st=0

When I said I upgraded, I upgraded via the Nintendo Servers. I did not lose homebrew channel, all IOS were upgraded via nintendo, IOS249 stayed... USB loader worked straight away, haven't tried installing any wads. I know WM1.3 loads a custom IOS (assuming this is cIOS249). CustomIOS16 WM won't load since IOS16v257 was upgraded. just FYI

Yep - followed your guide, did the trick perfectly.
Preloader 0.29 installed with the Auto-A hack, tested and all working great.

Thanks again.

Hello, just read the guide and me too idiot to understand the part where it says:

Requirements:
....

"A 3.2/4.0 Firmware, complete with downgraded IOSes"

I have a factory 4.0u system menu Wii and i've only installed these cioses:

Wanin's 245 rev 14
hermes's version 4
and mplayer's cios which enables usb 2.0, don't know the ios number for that one

With that I can load games with usb loader gx with no problems whatsoever!

Can I install preloader 0.29 on my 4.0u wii?

Thanx in advance!

Alex

Hi,

sorry if this is a noob question that has been answered already, but i couldn't find anything related to my particular situation.

I've just installed preloader 0.29 on my 4.1E wii, and everything went OK.
However, preloader does not seem to like my hacks.ini file.
It does seem to be able to read my SD card, as the 'install dol' option finds the RZTP.dol, which is still in the root of the card from my first run of Wii Resort.
When I go to the system hacks section however, i get something like 'hacks for your system menu (v450) not found', while the contents of the hacks.ini file does have 'version=450' for all hacks (all hacks copied directly from the wiibrew page).
One thing that might be the culprit is that i created the hacks.ini file on a mac. Is it possible that texteditor.app defaults to some maccentric encoding that preloader can't read or something?

Thanks.

Very last line of that page

QUOTEWrong linebreaks

If you are using a Mac or Linux, you will probably have the wrong kind of linebreaks if you just copy this list into a hacks.ini. Preloader needs dos-type linebreaks, so you have to use a tool like unix2dos to change the linebreak format.

hope it helps.

anyone as a way to install preloader with system menu 4.2 and make it work with the new homebrew channel 1.05 ...
to install it on System Menu 4.2, you'll need to patch ES_Identify (aka ES_DIVerify) into IOS70, then install preloader. However, I'm not sure of an app to patch IOS70 with ES_Identify. Anyway, if you find an app to do that, then patch IOS70 and then install preloader and it will work fine. the only thing which wont work is auto-booting HBC. However, there is a simple workaround. Install Crazy Intro as the installed dol and autoboot to it, then change HBC's title ID in the config file to JODI instead of HAXX. Then just set it to autoboot the .dol, and when you turn on your wii, you'll get a custom health screen where you press A to go to system menu or B to go to HBC.

you can use the freethebug batch program to add ES_identify to any IOS

grab the system menu wad via NUSD and install with wad manager.
