Tencent has acquired Sumo Group, developers behind Sonic All-Stars Racing, Sackboy, and more

asddas.png

Tencent has bought up another video game company to add to its massive portfolio, with its recent acquisition of British studio Sumo Group. The brand is the parent company of Sumo Digitial, responsible for creating popular titles such as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed, LittleBigPlanet 3, Snake Pass, and Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Tencent paid a whopping $1.27 billion dollars to buy up Sumo Group, while previously having an 8.75% stake in the company's stakes.

Tencent intends to bring its expertise and resources to accelerate the growth of Sumo both in the UK and abroad, supporting Sumo in the market for top-notch creative talent, and the UK as a hub for game innovation. We believe the proposed transaction benefits all stakeholders, delivers compelling value for Sumo shareholders, while enhancing the Sumo business for the future.

you think after all the atrocity the CCP has done one company would have the f-ing balls to refuse but human greed rules the mind of big tech
I would say that, at least in capitalism, theres not really any ethic. Sure, supposedly the market would put preassure on you if you took bad decisions, but if theres nothing to stop you or to loose, why not?, its actually a decent deal for Tencent. Also, the US is kinda in the same line for many countries, the difference is that they have been the only super power for a long time.

Billion with a b?

At least codemasters the other month had some stuff in their past. https://gbatemp.net/threads/ea-buys-codemasters-for-1-2-billion-dollar.578897/

These guys... I don't get it.
I think it really just comes down to competence. The games this team has made aren't the biggest titles ever, but they are fully realized and polished titles all the same, and they weren't failures by any means either. So Tencent being the giant that they are and only getting bigger, probably just saw a group of programmers that can competently put out a product, and intends to tell them what their next project(s) will be.

Anything moving towards a monopoly simply sucks, even without them being controlled by cpc, which comes with lots of issues.
I want game studios to be more independant again.
They can still get fundings from other sources, like rare developing games for Nintendo back in the day, but just flat out being owned by big corp won't have a good ending.

I got all their games through humble bundle, not big deal tho, beside u won't lose anything if their future games are not up to expectation, you don't have to BUY IT .

Where's ur hypothetical loss???????????????????????????????????

Sorry you're not good with Windows Sylvester. lol
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Because co-pilot doesnt even show up on my pc. Not in the taskbar, not in the start menu search, and the option in settings to turn it on and off in the taskbar is not even displayed.

Well, I complain about Microsoft all the time. You seem to enjoy it, no offense. If you like using Windows, that's fine by me.

Liking Windows or not is an opinion. Yes.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Being able to disable copilot is not an opinion. lol. its a fact that it can be disabled.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Yet you just laugh about it when I tell you, like Im lying
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
People can dislike Windows all they want. But I will call out the over-exaggerations, misconceptions, half truths, and lies about it.

Tired of the entire "BUT BUT BUT WINDOWZ SPYWARE!!!" thing too, when the same people give out tons of their personal info to plenty of other companies but say nothing about it.

@RedColoredStars, Companies do the exact same thing with other companies as well, so it's not just Microsoft. There are 3rd-parties like 'data brokers'.

I'm 52 years old and one of my jobs in life was marketing research. Im well aware. I've been online for around 30 years. Everyone and their grandmother already has my personal information. One more having my email address isn't ruining my life or even effecting me in any way whatsoever.

In fact. I freely give info. Stuff like gasoline apps, to save $, grocery apps, lots of cash back from rakuten, etc. etc.

$300 back last year from Rakuten for allowing them to track my purchase. I'll take the money for them to know I bought a bunch of stuff for my cat and some video games. lol

    @K3Nv2, Exactly.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
And for people to say things like "But I use all fake info". No, they don't. lol. They use fake info for all of their banking and online shopping? Fake shipping address, fake payment info? lol
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Fake name, address and payment info for internet service, etc? lol. Ill say it again. Everyone freaks out about OMG WINDOWS!! But crickets on anything else they do.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Other windows stuff people complain about hypocritically too. Like "But but but Windows bundle junk apps!!!!" Yeah?? So do many Linux distributions. Dont like it? Use one without them. Same with windows. Either find a pre-made version without the bundled stuff, or very easily make your own installer with what you want and do not want.
