Ok sorry for the questions but (in theory) when the CFW is installed why do you need a Jig??

The jig is required to make the exploit work which allows the running of arbitrary code, so even when CFW is installed it still needs the exploit to be run for it to load the CFW (which will most likely run in an emulated NAND rather than being installed to the system NAND). If you were to flash CFW to the system NAND and didn't run the exploit it would simply not load anything.
When you have had CFW on the 3DS it's usually using software based exploits to automatically run the code but in the case of the switch (on latest firmwares) the only exploit is the hardware one so to load into CFW it will need to run that exploit every time it boots the CFW.

So I understand once the CFW is loaded on the emunand would it be safe to take the Jig out? Obviously with the Jig you won’t be able to put the Joycon in? So in theory if you turn off your switch and turn it back on you would have to run the exploit again like a teathered scenario...

Or will the Jig have to stay in at all times? Which if that the case then modding the Joycon is better??

Sorry to be pain!! And thanks so much for replying

So from what I gather once CFW gets going it's going to be more of a hassle to run each time on 5.0+ than 4.1 and under? At least in the foreseeable future?

You only have to run the exploit after a reboot/full shutdown. The jig is only needed to access Rcm, so you can take it out once you preform the exploit

On 5.x.x, you have to do the hardmod, and on 4.x.x and under, there will be software exploits

For curiosity's sake: Aside from connecting any pin to Pin 4 (which fries the console completely as it's a 5V line), is there any risk for damage in connecting any other pins together?

Correct. Looks like it's a webkit exploit, so it would involve changing your dns settings and having the exploit hosted somewhere. ()
So you need some sort of internet connection if that the exploit they decide to use. (I suppose that's sort of tethered in a way)

Hi, I bought my switch in march and I'm currently running the latest update. I understand that I will need to do the hardware thing to do anything with the current version and I'm fine with doing it. My question is, am I going to be able to install custom CFW when it launches or will I have to find another switch that hasn't updated yet (or is there a way to downgrade my switch). The only homebrew experience I have is from the wii. I'm not so interested in emulation, nor am I interested in piracy, but I am super interested in running cheats/using cheats to unlock parts of games/get a ton of coins etc, will this be possible when the CFW comes out? My last question is, Has anyone from the switch homebrew scene said anything about them making homebrew work on latest update (using the hardware exploit)/ as of now what can I do with the hardware exploit?

When CFW is released, all FW can be installed at the same timing.
Installation method depends on FW.
Homebrew is only for 3.0.0. You can use nx-hbl at the same timing as CFW release.

So is the X1 exploit available on all versions or isn't it? I've heard multiple answers already, and I thought it was kind of a ntrboot but for Switch. Then, doesn't it mean that when it's released to the public (I've heard June, but that seems too early lol) every user will be able to do the same that they're already doing with 3ds? I mean, with less-developed softwarw, but with the same exploit level and ease.

Is EmuNAND a completely different "OS"? Like would it need a different account for playing and that stuff?

Im asking cause in case i get banned from using my EmuNAND/games whatever there, would i also get banned in my regular NAND?

I think it works like 3DS, so EmuNAND is a different system from the console's view but not from Nintendo's. While in 3DS it'd be a problem with accounts, I don't think that'll happen with Switch.

I have bought an extra Switch to save until later when hacking scene is more developed.

Since I have no idea how long this will take, I would like to know whether I should keep the Switch charged or leave it as is in the box in order to keep battery at good condition.

Charging it will only subject your battery to wear and tear. Keep your second Switch in it's box and ideally store it in a cool dry place (if you really are in Hong Kong this is easier said than done with summer coming up).

Yes, I am un/fortunately in Hong Kong.

Is it ok to charge it to 100% once, and leaving it at that? The reason why I am asking is because I would like to test the unit out to see if everything is functioning correctly before putting it away.

Test the unit out, but try to avoid charging it above 85%. Storing your Switch in the fridge will prolong the battery's lifespan, but explaining the situation to your family or roomates will be quite awkward. For a super detailed answer check the guide linked below.

If you know the firmware then dont even turn it on. Leave it in the box. It would be like you never bought it, still on the shelf.
