Yadda yadda yadda... I'm not "anti-PSP", but this is a new low. Sony hires an ad agency to create a fake fanboy website to create a viral campaign for their PSP.

i (charlie) have a psp. my friend jeremy does not. but he wants one this year for xmas.

so we started clowning with sum not-so-subtle hints to j's parents that a psp would be teh perfect gift. we created this site to spread the luv to those like j who want a psp!

consider us your own personal psp hype machine, here to help you wage a holiday assault on ur parents, girl, granny, boss – whoever – so they know what you really want.

we'll let you know how it works for us. pls return the favor.

more to come,
c&j.

article on it:

QUOTEMarketing 101: If you are going to do viral marketing, please avoid clusterfucks like pretending to be consumers order to appeal to appeal to other consumers. A bigger faux pas is doing things like creating a hardcore fanboy website and registering it under a marketing company. Real smart there, fellas.

So I ran a whois on the site and the registrant is Zipatoni Co., out of St. Louis. Here's a little quip from their webpage of the kinds of services they offer (to big corps like Sony who want to run some unconventional and aggressive advertising) ...

edit: we are serving their purposes right now by talking about it on the internet. cease and desist@!
and .. if the kotaku article says the same thing, sorry i can't access kotaku from work. but gbatemp worx :|

The PSP is over and done with now, maybe it'll have a few more games released for it before sony give up all together. Its still too expensive, you can no longer downgrade it if you buy a new one. The PSP is a good machine is just that some of the games on UMD load far too slowly and ruin the game. The PSP is great for watching videos on the move though, just a shame sony insisted on using MP4 as a codec.

Dude,
Sony sucks the big fat one. Ever since they ran Lik Sang out of business, fuck Sony. I hope that company fails.

You good sir, have restored my faith in humanity. To be fair, the only thing I wanted last Christmas was a PSP but now that I have a DS Lite and an M3, the only thing I play is MGS: PO on the PSP and I really only play my DS. I never liked Sony but after Lik-Sang I will just never buy another product from them.

Wow, they actually admitted to the site being a fake as it obviously backfired on them and has gained much unwanted attention. What a refreshing moment of honesty by Sony...

Unfortunately they still try to remain "hip" to the consumers.

Busted. Nailed. Snagged. As many of you have figured out (maybe our speech was a little too funky fresh???), Peter isn't a real hip-hop maven and this site was actually developed by Sony. Guess we were trying to be just a little too clever. From this point forward, we will just stick to making cool products, and use this site to give you nothing but the facts on the PSP.

unfrotunately, it looks like when ukresistance backed up the page to archive how bad it really was (Sony has totally reworked the site) they left the youtube links as-is, and it looks like Sony got the vids taken down. I hope someone saved them.

Ha ha.... oh wow. So the real target audience Sony is looking is the, "gangsta" type gamers. That site looks like something that could've been knocked up in the building a website section in geocities. But hey, we're discussing about the FAILURE of Sony's marketing and not the PSP itself.

I find this to be funny.

Damn, it looks like they got rid of all the comments on that site.

@ the video: The guy that looks like he's in his mid 20's is asking his mom for a PSP? Get a job!

Ehhhh.... Sometimes, I'm happy to live in a socialist country. (I don't say this often)

Fuck giant megacorporations and fuck viral marketing and astroturfers.

Oh yeah, and fuck sony as well, but they already are fucked beyond recognition.

One of the keyshops is 95% off at the moment (probably humble bundle keys)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
And a small percentage of keys bought with a stolen credit card.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
You never know if the key works or not, they don't provide a guarantee.
  • linuxares @ linuxares:
Sure is... and poor devs get hit with the charge backs

    Exactly.

Thor from "Pirate Software" said its just better to pirate the game than buy from a keyshop if you care about the devs

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
devs don't get hit with the chargebacks, the keys are free to generate
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    at least on steam
  • linuxares @ linuxares:
Except he said the DEVS get hits with the chargeback cost
  • linuxares @ linuxares:
since the key gets bought with a stolen credit card
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
there's nothing to charge back because the keys don't cost them money to generate in the first place
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If the game has a crack sure
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Most these crack sites have dead links anymore or the crack don't even work
  • linuxares @ linuxares:
@The Real Jdbye What don't you get? If someone use a stolen creditcard. Then sell said key on G2A. If I the dev sold the game key, I will get the charge back cost. That's how it works, it doesn't matter if I generate 300 keys if 300 of them are bought with stolen credit cards. I never said it was on Steam, but its the dev that gets hit. There is a ton of stories out there if you google it.
