All told, we’re planning to showcase more than 40 games across PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.
Sony CEO Kaz Hirai recently said PlayStation 4 is “first and foremost” a game console, adding that “the most important thing we need to make sure we do, at least initially, is that we all agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers. If we miss that part than I don’t think we get the initial establishment of the console."

Although this doesn't mark how many of these 40 will be exclusives(besides the ones already announced), it still makes Microsoft's 15 games, seem kinda very slightly enormously small in comparison. Xbox-One doomed?

The answer is 9 hours, but only time will tell at E3, or when the console launches, but that kills the speculation doesn't it.

I'm not making any judgments until E3. For all we know, Sony could be making 40 crappy games. (I doubt it, but still) I'll take quality over quantity any day.

Well, GTA V is one, Watchdogs is another, if both get on PS4, then that's "four" games Sony could legitimately argue they're showing off...

I really don't hope they go that route of inflating the amount of games, rather than just giving the amount of unique games.

So, about 13 per system?

Also, so console for now.
It's likely to largely be focused on the PS4 and Vita, and partially on the PS3. I'd guess probably about 5 for PS3, maybe 15 for Vita, and about 20 for PS4, which kind of doubles as another 20 for Vita if that cross play business keeps up.

I still can't understand what's people's fascination with "exclusives" - the fact that owners of different systems won't be able to play a given game doesn't make it "better" in any way, and if we're talking about the system-selling capacity, that's something the console's manufacturers should be happy about, not the general public. I personally don't care if the games they'll show will be exclusive or not, I just want them to be interesting.

I've always said it's the reason why I buy a console is for the exclusives. Yeah most people say third party support, for me it's the exclusives. And Nintendo and Sony just offer a much better and overall better experience when it comes to exclusives over Microsoft.

Isn't it because people want an experience on a console that they wouldn't be able to get on another? It becomes a factor in deciding which consoles to buy when two of them mostly share the same games (like multi-platform games on the PS3/360).

What's not to understand? It's all about competition and making a console more wanted to the public over the other. For people, it's a way to show which one is supreme (fanboyism).

Personally, I don't get this Utopian lovey-dovey can everything be the same no war peace for everyone tree-cuddling hippy attitude. It's not fun if everything was the same, everything offered the same experience. There would be no choice and there was no reason to build better games because well, someone else isn't doing a better job so we cba too.

Competition is good, choice is good. Etc.

The obvious retort is surely "my DVD player".
