Hacking Emulation ROM Hack SNEmulDS Issue With Patched SFC

So I have a new 2ds xl. I installed SNEmulDS on a flashcart (acekard 2i) because I want to play snes romhacks through the flashcart. The software works fine for standard sfc files (I tested Super Mario World). But for the patched sfc files, it will load properly to the title screen and then once i get past there (like loading into an in game save file) the game will freeze. There's a menu on the lower screen that I can still use to navigate through the SNEmulDS software, but the emulated game itself stops working (for every patched game I've tried). I've tested the same patched files on snes9x and had no issues. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
