Okay, so how do we know they didn't "overlook" this pretty obvious bug so that they can further prevent Gateway users from online play with a new patch? And who is to say we won't get another software update to keep Gateway users also out of the eShop? It seems a little fishy to me.
that's pretty paranoid.
they can release an update for the game whenever they want, they don't have to make excuses. purposefully leaving a bug in the game is completely unneeded. an update for the game doesn't stop gateway users playing online... - only stopping region free online play, this game is coming out internationally, so that's not nintendo's plan, to stop people with usa consoles from playing online for a few weeks.
nintendo's firmware updates aren't strictly to stop gateway users (relative to sony). we already know they will release an update to provide themes support (that's not just limited to new 3ds right?) - regardless, surely a new fw update will come out, why shouldn't nintendo try and stop us from accessing eshop? - but they are not really doing anything sneaky, fishy... lol

So how exsactly are they planning to patch this? Im curious because the turnip pulling is part of the moveset as is the bomb with link. Removing either of those would be giving that player a huge disadvantage, would it not? Are they just making it so its only turnips being pulled and nothing else can be spawned? Or are they removing that move completely? Coz i would hope its a simple case of allowing the turnip but removing the ratio of every other item she can spawn to 0 and not allowing it to be customized.

Pretty stupid of them to overlook this but i hope they patch it in a way that doesnt screw peach (and possibly link?) users.

its a bug. its not links bombs, its not peaches turnips, their auto ban system has a bug due to the fact that peach can rarely pull up items like beam swords and bombs instead of turnips. this is only with peach and they aren't taking out turnips from glory mode. I assume they will make it so peach can only pull turnips in glory mode and fix the banning system so peach players won't get banned for no reason.

My friends banned me from using peach in melee.

So what were games like before we could release patches like this? How did we make sure there werent game breaking bugs like this in pre digital release days? Did companies just fire the whole QA staff as soon as DLC and patching became commonplace?

guitar hero 3 on wii had a issue, I think it only had mono sound or something, they had people send their disc in. Companies would also just release new versions of the disc/cart that had some bug fixes. but there wasn't a way to update.

Before patches we also didn't have much in the way of online play with automated banning systems.
(also, games were simpler, which automatically means less bugs)

You adapt.

@Sicklyboy - the comparison would be forgiving all medical debt, not making healthcare illegal!
  • cearp @ cearp:
Although I still don't agree, medical debt is rarely a choice, whereas enrolling in university is certainly a choice

College costs, college loans, book prices, the entire thing is predatory, oft touted as essential to a successful life for my generation and the ones since, and completely unaffordable without putting you through an insane financial hardship for literal decades in many situations.

Many of the same issues can be seen for the insanely predatory healthcare and health insurance system in the US

It's important for society to be healthy and educated. If those things can't happen because all of the institutions that prop up those industries make it unattainable for all but a small portion of society, then your society is largely going to be disease ridden, dying, and uneducated in very short order.

Issue is it's too rich of a coperation already with bad sugar diets causing diabetes and killing teeth a new set of teeth around 90k
  • cearp @ cearp:
I agree it's not easy for the average American, let alone the ones below that average. Free / cheaper healthcare is much more important I think than free university education.
Of course like @mthrnite said, why not both. But I doubt both will get solved at once, and surely healthcare is top priority.

If it's needed to keep you healthy it shouldn't cost you $90k. The fact that it does is an enormous problem
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
but yeah, affordable is all i'm asking for
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
i'd be happy with affordable dentures

And if the concern is that "well we can't trust the government to intervene for this because the government can't do anything right and wastes tons of money" then holy shit push for a better government. I'm certainly trying to. Don't throw your hands up and go "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas"
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus technology cost iirc even a water jet drill is 1k per
  • cearp @ cearp:
@K3Nv2 that's crazily expensive. how long will that take to pay off?

Although diet is largely education, people don't need to go to university to learn what's healthy and what's not,
it's the whole country, big corporations and advertising that is to blame for leading most of the population to believe that poptarts and froot loops are healthy to feed a child
  • mthrnite @ mthrnite:
i would think the population knows better but with food deserts and abject poverty, sometimes a poptart gonna have to do.

it's a big ol complicated world innit

As someone who went through the grade school system in the US some time within the past 30 or so years, not nearly enough is done to promote and educate on how to eat healthy in a way that is feasible to do on a regular basis and also affordable. Eating healthy is, comparatively, fucking expensive. So is eating unhealthy, but in many cases eating unhealthy is more affordable than eating healthy
