Hi. I was wondering if I should even bother playing FFIV in light of the problems I've read about it(slowdowns, characters in the back row getting hit by projectiles, etc)

1)With the recent release of FFV, should I just skip IV and go right into V?

2)I hear V is flawless, but I fear that if I don't play IV I'll be missing some of the story of V.

3)Is it worth dealing with the all the problems of IV?

4)Does the slowdown happen even in Visual Boy Advance?

5)I heard a rumor that the EURO version of IV does NOT suffer the glitch that causes the party's back row to get hit by projectiles....is this true?

The stories in IV and V do not connect with each other. They are independent stories.

So what should I do? Are the slowdown and stutter problems in IV really that bad in the Euro version?

i have IV for my gba, it runs pretty good, seems to run a little slow at times, but not as bad as the ps1 version did. i haven't tried V on gba yet, but plan on getting it sometime soon.

If you don't play IV, you're missing one of the greatest Final Fantasy stories! Arguably it's VI, IV & V in terms of story..but no matter how you slice it, it's an RPG worth playing if you haven't before.

The PSx version of the game STINKS - the load times make it nigh unplayable - loading before every random battle is just intoerable, especially at the frequency that they occur.

Do yourself a favour and if you're looking for good RPGs, play both IV & V.

gotta toss my hat in with FFIV. this was one of the first RPGs I played.

I hope that doesn't color my opinion, though. The music in the game( especially the "dreaded battle" ) ranks among my favorite game soundtracks.

I also really enjoyed the story ( the first ff with real drama and characterization ) the first appearance of the active time battle, and the large yet managable world.

Plus, it's not as long as FFV, so i vote you play it first!

ffIV had a great story in my opinion, but i am biased about the game, it was one of the first games i ever played, and it was the funnest game i had played, in fact it IV is the reason i fell in love with gaming, and am still playing video games. i love all of the old FF games, IV,V, and VI. i still want to play III on my ds though. I and II were alright in the gba collection. its my favorite series of all time thats for sure. if you could you should get IV and V you won't be dissapointed, and make sure to get VI when it comes out, i think it is still my favorite one of all time, though i really loved IX to.

If you actually plan on playing both games eventually - play FFIV first. It's actually quite painful imo to retrograde and play older (and unconnected) games. For example, play Castlevania AoS and then Castlevania CotM; both were/are fantastic games, but the polish in AoS makes CotM crap in comparison.

Otherwise play FFV first.

The slowdown in 4 on GBA was over-exagerated imo. I played through it on M3 and didn't even notice until I read fanboys complaining on gheyfaqs.
Hell I didn't even notice this 'projectiles hit you in back row' nonsense either.
One thing I did notice though is the ATB gauge system was broken, i.e not being able to take your turn even tho the gauge is full.
I'm playing through 5 now on the PSP GBA emu, but to answer your question, yes you should play them, ideally 1,2,4 & V GBA and 3 on DS if possible simply because they all have new content, and have some of the best moments in gaming.
I don't reccomend playing them one after another mind, I think it could get quite tiring. Depending on how much time you put into gaming, they could last you quite a while!

yeah the order doesn't really matter. as far as I remember, I played 5 before 4... but that was 8 years ago or something
