So Sega Forever is unity based and there's rumours of a possible Switch version down the road.

Evans hinted that an expansion to other platforms may come further down the line. He stated that developing these re-releases in the Unity game engine "opens up other commercial opportunities for us with Apple TVs, desktops and the Switch as well."

Has anyone experience with the service yet and is this the sort of thing people want to see on their Switch?

If it's shit like on Android/iOS then they might as well and not bother releasing it on the Switch.

If they could sort the emulation out it would be great to see some dreamcast and Saturn games, Panza Dragoon comes to mind, Shenmue too would be awesome but I guess that's impossible.

Reicast is available for Android so it's possible to play Dreamcast on the go. :) The emulation isn't perfect but works.

Comix Zone runs horribly on my phone and it shouldn't, I played the game via MD.emu and it ran smoothly. The others are no better either.

Sigh.. SEGA.
how is everybody having a hard time, I'm running on a tablet that handles other games like shit but sega forever seems to run just fine somehow, wtf is going on?

Exactly my phone is also a peace of shit but all 5 Sega forever games run with zero issues.

Well, there's the fact that there's like a million different Android devices out there so apps/games work better on some than others. It's still strange how I can play the game flawlessly via the emulator but the actual game by SEGA it runs like crap.

I like SEGA a lot.
I like Phantasy Star II a lot, I wanted to play it the right way.
But considering that even on my S7 Edge it runs like shit (music skips omg), I am disheartened.
And of course it runs smooth like butter on retroarch.
I was going to be an asshole and say that the only 'right way' to play Phantasy Star II is on the original hardware, but truthfully the best alternative is the Sega Megadrive Collection disk that came out for PS3 and X360.

Probably yes...
Anyway,

Depends on what means having a hard time, it works... that said, the S7 Edge is not exactly a low end smartphone, yet:

The sound skips and it is not smooth as it should.

I do not see and hear any major differences in your videos besides less load times on sega forever. Don't be so picky and entitled

What? Really, entitled?
I don't know how can't you hear it, I only uploaded a little segment but it happens all the time.
Like when I entered the hospital, music skips and the whole rythm changes, accelerates then decelrates.
Good for you if it does not annoy you. As for me, it does, it happens all the time, on the map, in battles.
I mean, whatever you say, I don't see the entitlement, it's like you are just calling me entitled because you had a bad day or something.

PS: Look, I was very positive regarding Sega Forever, and put time into it, you can see my initial reaction in these posts:

Phantasy Star 2? I'm in. There I go Algos System!
Well, from playing Phantasy Star 2 for some minutes I can say that ads are not so annoying, you must watch ads only when you save state, but then the problem is that you can only save state to the cloud, so not offline saving, if you buy it local save is enabled.
This can get a little annoying when on the go. But it is quite cheap 2€.
Checked, everything but save states works fine in airplane mode.

Including normal save slots inside the game.

But as time went on, well I had to accept the thing doesn't work right, sound skips and is very annoying to listen to, and as much as...

I don't know if you have used this yourself, but your reaction is uncalled for, I mean, I did try.

He showed you evidence that the SEGA Forever version is flawed and yet, you attacked him. How very mature of you.

Watch it again, and you might notice it.

Is it possible that SEGA is using a crappy version of MD.emu?

Every game Sega Forever has released so far works fine on my Sony Experia Z2. I'm sure the Switch ports will have zero issues.

The Sega Forever releases don't "lag" per se, but they do run at 30 frames per second (and thus skip every other frame) and are based on Unity engine, which is a considerable amount of bloat for what should just be a basic emulator. The sound is emulated poorly as well.

The 30 FPS restriction is pointless when even the lowest end Androids can emulate the Genesis at 60 FPS regardless. Even the DS could do it for crying out loud.

Because those videos are both in 30 frames per second, so you won't be able to tell the difference visually.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
