Oculus Rift? I thought Valve was working alongside Palmer and Carmack on it, or are they making their own to compete with the Rift?I don't see how this would work but it seems interesting.
I know "gaming goggles' are the new "future tech" trend at the moment, with Valve working on one and there's another one that plays Doom 3 (whoop-di-fucking-do), and that seems a bit more plausible than 360 projection.
However this is only a patent which have covered a variety of things that never happened. This could all just be brainstorming on Microsoft's part and their just making sure those brainstormed ideas don't get taken, just in case.

It was revealed that Valve is building their own headgear that's not the Oculus Rift. But the Oculus Rift is the name of the Carmack one, thanks.
Also here was impressions on Valve's headset from NYT. It's still prototype but it answers all the questions about Valve hiring hardware designers.
