Sorry for not being detailed, im on o3ds. So from what you're saying, i should boot to emunand (with rxtools) and update from system settings yeah?

Yes, update using Other Settings -> Software Update when in emunand (and without exiting). This is how I've been doing it on my own and on friends. We use linked SYSNAND and EMUNAND. I read somewhere, if these are linked and you use sysupdater, you end up updating both.

Formats your emunand to unlink your nands (without phoning home to Nintendo to unlink your NNID).

it's terrible advice anyway if you have a lot of progress in Mii plaza and such that you want to keep. Do you really want to have to restart into sysnand all of the time to continue racking up your progress/streetpasses/etc? It's better to use it on sysnand.

So you're saying that if I do 'Tiny Format' it gets rid of Mii Plaza progress in whatever Nand you apply it on? Does it get rid of anything else?

I need a little more detail as to how Tiny Format works and how it unlinks the Nands and what it 'does' format, before I proceed.

it only formats the NAND you're running. Then they are unlinked, the other one remains untouched

So what does it format of it? It's called 'Tiny' for a reason...so what does it format? :P
Already answered, it formats the NAND only, the NAND where you are when you execute it. Letting SD untouched, otherwise the only way to format NAND is formatting entire SD.

Not true. The sensible thing to do is remove the SD before you power on, then format sysnand with the card removed.

But tinyformatter lets you do it without removing the SD card. When you have emunand, you will use emunand more than anything else. People saying to format emunand instead of sysnand are retards. Emunand is where you want all of your progress and game saves..

True dat. Let's say that's the only other way, then. But you still can't format emunand like this.

Yes. But if you care about both keeping your progress AND using the latest software (say... eshop games with new crypto on an N3DS... without the painstaking process of cryptofixing) then you're a retard for formatting emunand anyway.

But I must ammend what I said above. Tinyformatter is cool stuff because it does not phone home to unlink NNID. It will be my new recommendation when setting up any cfw, since it's a pain linking NNID back up (or... not so much at the moment with 10.3 n3ds support on Cakes, ReiNand, and GW)

No, you need format your system settings, restore your original NAND... or rxTools will haunt you forever.... Just kidding

On serious note, yes, just remove rxTools folder.

For N3DS, step 2-4 should be replaced by "Find CakesFW's N3DS Firmware and Rename it to 0004013020000002.bin, then put it into firm folder".

Actually, someone needs to probably update the readme on the github with a hash for the proper firmware.bin file. I have a sneaky suspicion we will start seeing people posting in here about how they cant get shit working and if we ask them to check the hash for there firmware file it will be wrong. Because, you know, I saw something on one of those iso sites about cakes supporting 9.6+ now.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Way before ;)

I would hope so, since I think rxTools is the only one still limited to 9.5

They won't bother because they plan on doing the 10.3 thing, so the current MD5 will be invalid shortly anyway. When that happens, the .py script will be able to get the correct file, until Nintendo makes a new native_firm, and removes the current one from their servers.
