NOTICE:

It has come to my attention that my old download links and instructions were within the gbatemp rules. I am not linking any actual roms, or full romfs files. I am only linking the individual edited files required to play Rising Sun & Waning Moon. If this is threatened to be taken down once more, I ask that mods first look and tell me why the Nova Sun/Umbra Moon mods do the same and have remained up.

Lets start off with some context. Currently, pk3DS allows us to edit the trainers and move sets of pokemon within Pokemon Sun and Moon. I decided to go ahead and create a challenge mode of sorts, similar to that of Pokemon Blaze Black/Volt White. Currently editing wild encounters!

Changes:
  • Trial Captains and Kahunas now all have teams of 6 Pokemon.
  • Level curve greatly changed. Team should be in high 70s/low 80s by the end of the elite 4.
  • Trainers have Pokemon not usually seen in Alola.
  • Movesets of weaker Pokemon is finished.
  • Youngster Joey has a top percent Rattata.
  • Wild encounters up until the post game are finished! Have fun everyone!
  • Custom music for post game returning trainers.
  • Almost every Pokemon has access to their hidden ability.

A NOTE ABOUT INSTRUCTIONS:
THE EASIEST METHOD IS GETTING A CFW, DO IT WHILE YOU CAN.
Instructions: (CFW Required for this method. See other method below if you don't have a CFW) I also still need to make the method easier for Pokemon Sun users, sorry!

THINGS YOU NEED:
- Latest nightly build of luma. (Get this through the .cia updater)
- The hack's GARC files (the stuff that actually overwrites the original assets) Get it from the Google Drive link

New and Updated Instructions! About time!

Luma Game Patcher Method:
    • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
    • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder titled romfs within luma/titles/(titleID)
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • Make sure "Enable Game Patcher" is checked in luma3ds setup.
  • Start Sun/Moon
Thats it! Easiest way to tell if its working is by starting a new game or checking your Trainer Passport.

FOR POKEMON SUN USERS: RENAME THE "3" FILE IN a\0\8\ TO "2"

Layeredfs: (These instructions only apply if you use the Layeredfs files)

The LayeredFS feature allows you to replace RomFS files with files on the SD card for most games. To use it:
  • Create a folder named titles inside luma.
  • Create a folder with the game's title id as the name (0004000000164800 for Sun, 0004000000175E00 for Moon) inside titles.
  • Create a folder called romfs in the game's folder.
  • Place the "a" and "data" folders within the "romfs" folder.
  • For example, to use LayeredFS with Pokémon™ Sun, make a folder named romfs , put your replacement files in it, then put romfs in 0004000000164800.

Todo:
  • Re balance according to feedback.
  • Re balance Pokemon move sets and stats once tools are available.
  • Add in last few Pokemon. (Some starters, legendaries, etc.)
  • Finish documentation on the various changes.

Boss,beta 1.0 of waning moon was released,may i know any chance you will make a cia for beta 1.0 in "that iso site"?

Cia does not work, ive said it before it just boots to a black screen. Unless I did it wrong which I don't believe I did it just stays black.

So,You play the rom in 3ds consoles in what kind of format if it is not cia?

After you convert the "not working cia" into cci or 3ds that the rom is booting and no more blackscreen right?

However, having recently beaten the first trial, I must say I'm quite disappointed in the difficulty so far lol. Nothing except the first Ilima and the teacher at school was hard.
I beat the totem... with a single Force Palm from Riolu, and I steamrolled through Route 2 with my team.

In my opinion, having Audinos in trainers (Ilima) or even in the wild at this early stage without a massive level spike feels like a waste. If you don't want people to cheese that fight I'd suggest not adding any Fighting-type in the wild until after the trial. Trumbeak with Brick Break can't reliably one-shot Totem Raticate (I tried in vanilla Sun).

Here's hoping the next trials are brutally hard.

Yeah I was thinking about changing the Audinos. Also don't worry, the level curve catches up. There are some times where the game can get easy I do admit. The level curve always catches up though. Notable difficult battles I can think of are the first Gladion battle and the Wishiwashi battle. Thats how far I am right now in my current run.

To be honest, the Wishiwashi and Lurantis battles in vanilla SM were quite hard (for a vanilla Pokémon game). Well, if it ends up displeasing me, I guess I can pick up pk3DS and make a fork of Waning Moon. I'd call it "Waning Moon Brutal Edition"! :P

The rom must be in what format before playing on consoles for this hack?
I use a CIA. If it's possible in your country, buy the game and run the hack on HANS, that way you support the developers.

@X Virus I was going to try make a cia if a banner was made or the final release.

@Aqib Ali , Can you please make cia for 1.0 beta on "that iso site" ,since now beta 1.0 got all islands wild encounter edited so i think we are able to catch all 802 mons in 1 game ,is it right @Kobazco ? Final Release version still have long time to wait .....

We did it. Version 1.0 (Beta) is now released! Thank you all for the feedback! Please note that we are still far from being done, but the game is now playable from start to finish! Hopefully Post game will be done as well this weekend! :D

Changelog:
  • 3rd Island encounters finished
  • 4th Island encounters finished
  • One or two 1% legendaries thrown in some areas
  • Edited trainers within Brooklet hill to have actual teams
  • Fixed Evolutions that were reported to not be working
  • Rowlet, Litten, Poppolio, Caterpie, Weedle, Nidoran m/f, Vespiqueen, and all of their evolutions now have access to their hidden abilities!
  • Captain Ilima's second battle is functional
  • Fixed moveset issues on Captain Ilima's first battle
  • Fixed Kiawe's battle buffet encounter
  • Pikachu can now evolve into regular Raichu by leveling it up while holding a thunderstone
  • Exeggute can now evolve into regular Exeggutor by leveling it up while holding a leafstone
Thanks for all of the support guys! Like I said, there still a long ways to go! I undoubtedly missed a few Pokemon here and there, so suggest Pokemon to specific locations!

you mention that they have access to their hidden abilities, what are the conditions to have them.

Example a lot of Pokemon have the same ability set to both slots. An example is Rowlet having Overgrow in ability slots one and two. Instead, I put Long Reach over slot two, so he can get either Overgrow or Long Reach.

So in order to get the hidden abilities for the starters, you have to soft reset until you have it?

Okay @Kobazco now 4 islands's wild encounter had finished edited,so,may i know next beta v2.0 will have what changelog?What is your next plan?Bcoz you want to keep the storyline as the original games so i don't think there will be much to add on,mostly in beta 2.0 is fixed the trouble or bug in beta 1.0 right?

I'm going attempt to make a CIA now however I wont be able to test it as I personally play Pokemon Moon and my prefered rom hack is Rising Sun

Can someone PM the romfs for Waning Moon? Then I can dump my Moon then replace romfs and exheader then rebuild.
