Hardware Question about replacing the analog stick on 3DS console.

I bought a cheap original 3DS where the only fault is that the circle analog stick cap has snapped off. Am I right in thinking that if I buy a replacement that's labeled for a "3DS XL", there's no difference and I can use it without any problem or is there any difference between the 3DS and 3DS analog stick?

There's an aesthetic difference, not a technical/mechanical one.

They're cross compatible so whichever one you get should work fine
