Question about D2 for Dreamcast (8 cdis to fit on cd-rs)

So I'm thinking about starting D2 but I remember there being some issues with swapping discs. The original game is 4 discs but they were gdis and 1.2 gb so hackers downsampled it to fit on cd-rs but they had to make it 8 discs. Does anyone know the locations of when to swap discs? Will it be obvious or do you have to save or something first?
