Since they can both be hacked now, I was wondering what would be the best choice. It will be used to play backups and homebrew exclusively.

Since the Go has 16 GB of internal memory, I was more inclined to get that one.

Also, does the model of the PSP affect backup and homebrew performance?

I already own a psp 1000. Hacked. As I see it. It cost me 80 to buy one used at my local store (same price as a go). So I guess go with the GO. You get 16 gigs of free memory.

All PSP Go systems can be downgraded to 6.20 which means you can have permanent CFW, while some newer 3000 systems can't Not to mention the 16GB of built in memory. On the other hand, you have to use the more expensive Sony licensed memory stick M2/Micro with it rather than an inexpensive MicroSD adapter. Also, some people have problems with the psp go being too small to fit in their hands comfortably. I suggest you try playing on both a PSP Go and PSP 3000 and see how comfortable you are with the Go first (I am fine with it, other people aren't).

I just bought my Go a few days ago, and I don't regret it at all!
For me the improvement over the 1000 is great. Monster Hunter and Gods Eater can be a hassle to handle at first, but most games don't use the "claw" control method and work fine.

"clickier" buttons, more vibrant screen, 16GB memory.. The PSP Go is great for a homebrew or piracy enthusiast.

Thanks guys, you really helped me out!

Another question: Can you access the PSN Store with the newer custom firmwares?

^Yes, though you may have problems downloading and playing games. There are plugins (I believe) for that problem though.

The newer cfw have native psn support, so yes.

If you were to use older cfw like M33 you'd have to use plugins like psnfucker (Yes, that's what it's called)
