The Wii U has now three games I am very interested in. Oh boy, I might actually get it when I have the money.

Please make more characters though. A roster of 7 characters is insulting for a fighting game in 2016. Pokémon Type Wild has 9 and it's free.

Interesting. This game didn't seem like something the Wii U could handle, but then again, fighting games don't have to deal with a bunch of NPC's, so there's less logic going on and the models can be more complex. I hope it won't be too watered down.

The video is marked "footage from Arcade version", so I expect the final footage to be less impressive. Still, fighters tended to look spectacular even last gen, and the Wii U is beefier than the PS3/360, so maybe the game will look more or less the same.

This actually deflated my hype quite significantly. Those attack animations look so slow and stilted that a.) it's impossible to feel any real weight behind them, and b.) YOUR OPPONENT WILL SEE EVERYTHING COMING A MILE AWAY. Seriously, it looks like they're trying to fight while swimming in taffy. That, and the moves don't look very original or exciting, then again, that might just be because of the terrible animation. What used to be a pressing reason to buy a WiiU for me has now become another grain of sand on a beach; completely forgettable at best and mildly irritating at worst.

...then again the game might come out wonderfully and I'll dine on my dirty socks. Kinda doubt it, though.

There are many fighting games with relatively slow movement that are still competitive and fun, DoA would be one of them. Even if the opponent blocks, there are always throws, block-breaking attacks and other mechanics counteracting blocking incoming attacks. Everything depends on how this game will be crafted - slower doesn't mean worse, often times it means more strategic and less button-mashy.

Yes, but if they know how to react ahead of time, all the options for counter in the world wouldn't change anything. They'd simply pick one, be it from a pool of 1 or 1,000. Besides that, the animations themselves look stiff, with accelerations of limbs making the attacks look more akin to lazily fanning wind then acts of aggression.

What the fuck is with these retarded camera angles that don't give both fighters equal focus? I was hoping this game would just be a Tekken clone with pokemon but it looks like its just going to be something really weird and only to be played for short-lived novelty.

Tekken-based but behind the shoulder like the DBZ Xenoverse, Tenkaichi or Raging Blast games.

Street Fighter IV on 3DS had the feature to play behind the shoulder which was kinda cool DBZ Shin Budokai games on PSP could do the same too for those who'd prefer Tenkaichi-style).

I played this a few days ago, it was pretty fun for the short time I had with it, but I don't know how the longevity will be. It doesn't really play too much like tekken (though my only experience with tekken was a few rounds of tekken 3 in arcades years ago). There are a lot of special attacks with projectiles and area based things. There are really two seperate aspects to the game, first you are running around in 3d space and trying to get in close to attack. Then at some point (I never figured out exactly what triggers it, maybe when you land a pretty strong attack?) it switches to more of a standard fighting game on a 2d plane. Then I believe it goes back into the 3d mode if someone gets knocked away. The controls were really simple. There is basically a weak attack, strong attack, jump, and block. I think there was also a button for special attacks, can't really remember though. Combos are of the tekken/virtual fighter/doa variety where you just string buttons together. I wasn't able to find much variety in the combos, but I only played through 1 game. You also get an assist character, but there seems to be an extremely limited number of them.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
