Alrighty, so I've decided to invest in a 360. The main reason is because I've heard that a 360 can be hacked and can play backups easily, whilst keeping the ability to go online with these said backups.

I've read through many tutorials, watched videos, etc and feel that I could do this at home with my (future) 360. I just need a few things cleared up.

1. I've got an ASUS P5K-R motherboard with the P35 chipset. Will I be able to flash a 360 drive with this, or should I consider buying a VIA SATA card?
2. What steps would I take to make sure that I'm as "stealthed" as possibly whilst playing games online? I'm sure at least a few of you must do this. Care to tell me how long you've been doing it for, and any safety measures you take?
3. What discs do you use to backup your games? Verbatim are the most used, but I was wondering if I'd be able to use something like this as Verbatims are kinda expensive, or maybe I just suck at finding them for a decent price.

Cheers!

I'll just use this topic for anything new that comes up.

Offtopic: Anyone got a 360 w/ 20gb Hard Drive and accessories? 8D Maybe I'll post in the trading section

As far as I know, every drive can be hacked, yes. Although some seem more troublesome than others.

Textbook's guide seems to be the best. Offtopic recommended it too in the link above.

You only need 1 tutorial. http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/get=61.html

That chipset will only work with Hitachi or MS25 Samsung drives, you have to open it to see the latter. All scene releases are stealth patched. PM'ed link to Verbatims. (Don't spread said link)

It'll work fine for all , not just for ms25 and hitachi. Ms28 and benq will flash , you'll just have to solder a switch to unlock the drive for writing rather than it being 100% software.

DVD+R DL [DVD-R DL wont work]
2.4x [high speeds work, but it only takes 40 minutes a burn]
Verbatim [Made in Singapore]

Pioneer drives work the best i've heard,

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
