There's always flowers in everyone's funeral. In this case, Colobanthus Quitensis and a patchy grass (not pictured above) that reminds me of her everytime I see it and goes by the name Deschampsia Antarctica.
But what makes them special?
Turns out, scientific research has found that these particular flowers species has grown in population 10x faster in comparison to common modern Antarctica Flora consisting of mosses and lichens. Yes, that extremely cold, inhospitable place and god forsaken, not suited for life spot called Antarctica has flowers blooming rapidly in it's ecosystem.
So fast in fact, that it's considered a plague now, even though they're complete native to the Antarctic. I really wonder if I should provide , quote or show external links to further information as most people has the attention span of a teenager trying to understand Pokemon for Game Boy for less than 5 minutes and the reading and comprehensive skills of a 3 year old.
Anyway... these plants are not only invading the Antarctic, in which native but more modern plants are struggling to get the resources they need to thrive in a place already limited of sunlight and nutrients. The main concern is that moss and lichens has evolved to grow at a slower rate, in comparison to old native spevies that are invading the entire place.
If you paid attention to Biology class in 3rd grade (and if your brain is still not rotten) you should know by now (probably) that the ecosystem stability of Antarctica it in great danger as of now and it'll get worse with the potential invasion of non native species of other flora and other fauna.
These rapid changes brought thanks to climate change threaten to destabilise this once delicate balance that has existed for millennia, potentially leading to irreversible ecological damage and all the consequences that that will bring for the rest of the world in the following years and the next generations.
There's this "Doomsday Glacier" in the Antarctic, properly named by a bunch of nerds, because they say that once this glacier melts, it means we are pretty much fucked... well... "we" as in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay...
some othe coastline cities around the world... as for myself, if I ever witness that event... meh, I live in the second floor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
