Is gonna suck due to lag, unless they add the option to download it and play offline.

My limit was the garbage N64 emulation. I am proud owner of hacked Switch now

I am a proud owner of a couple actual N64's, and ED64 cart.

Not portable, but I mostly play video games blobbed out on the sofa anyway.

Debating whether I want to shell out for the PixelFX N64Digital mod. I'm inclined to agree with Voultar's opinion that the N64 just doesn't benefit enough, and is close enough to good enough on s-video or rgb with a good upscaler.

It has its place, but emulation has become my last resort for playing any given game.

This thread being a hell of a roller coaster aside, a new game being added means the app had to update...here's hoping they include some fixes for the emulation...unlikely but maybe
what a shame it seems like they rushed this out the door for the holidays

uhh...all the nso app are already playable offline. it's just shitty emulation that is causing the input delay

Using a Retrotink 2x Pro and ED64 right now. Looks good on my 4k TV, way better than composite by far. Why? Because Nintendo had made some dumbass decisions.

I'm using s-video and Framemeister for my N64. I have a Borti rgb board but havent installed it, not a priority. My recent effort and $ has been going into Gamecube .. got the GC Loader installed with the 3D printed card slot that fills the disc drive space, SD2SP2 in there too, and Retro-Bit Prism. Fully loaded luxury Cube.

Next up, getting the NESRGB kit installed in my AV Fami.

I have a couple weeks of vacation time coming up over the holidays ... I think I'll get that RGB board installed in one of my 64's, and play Paper Mario.

and people pay for this...:rofl2:
what a joke the switch is. come nintenDRONES come defend your creator :glare:
It's bad comedy. The people who paid for and supported this model deserve this, but it sadly means the rest of us will rarely if ever be able to legally buy any of these retro titles again if this nonsense is deemed successful enough by Nintendo.

Speaking of little effort, it's even possible for Nintendo to just upload more ROMs for more games without effort at all.

I wonder if you can downgrade your subscription to the normal $20 one and get your money back depending on the days you've been subscribed to the expansion service.

Had no problems with Mario Kart 64 online, but we were using internet cable except for 1 person who was on wifi, but it was still perfect. But my guess is that you need to have a fast connection, faster than you normally would need with this service comparing to unofficial emulation, which is just emberassing in 2021 while we could play near perfectly back in 2008 on a modified emulator that allows online with a slower connection.
Would lag a lot on N64 online service, maybe that's why people were complaining about MK64 lag?

Anyway, guess Nintendo just waits for next year on purpose for more and even better games. Time will tell.

well, I made a deal with Nintendo, though I didn't tell them this, it was a personal deal, but I would buy their expansion pack only if I got that replacement, right Mario red and blue joy con replacement. when you do a joy con replacement, they say if it's not fixable, you might receive a normal grey joy con back, which is a bunch of horse shit for those who bought a special edition. I received a Mario odyssey red joy con back, which was wrong, so it took two weeks for me to get the right joy con finally. part of the problem is that I was referring to the red and blue switch as the 3d world one, which was when it came out on that game's release date, which I think confused Nintendo. I gave them my serial number, and they were able to tell what system I had. once I got the right joy con, even tested it again last week, since I usually use the pro controller, and it worked without a problem. anyway, I did buy the expansion pack mostly for that reason. playing through oot now, and I may play through this game as well, since the trailer -- it doesn't look like I've played the game before. I mostly cared about oot and yoshi's story though from the offerings of the expansion pack, and it gives me the opportunity to play these games with n64 controller, since I bought two of them: one for pc; the other for the switch. I'm not too bothered by this atm, since I'm still playing oot, but I can see how this sort of shit upsets people.

btw, I guess in a way, Nintendo is trying to make up for the cost by offering that animal crossing dlc. I just downloaded it to my oled switch a day ago, and it's like $25 or $29.99, something like that by itself (get it for free with the expansion pack). you can also use gold coins to reduce cost or if you're upgrading, it's a five cent/day decrease in cost with how many days 'til your membership needs to be renewed. it would suck if you didn't have animal crossing though. haha

The original Paper Mario is a very good game and one of the better ones in the series compared to what came after TTYD. You might as well play it since you already have the expansion.

I guess one of the good things about me having got the expansion is that I buy all dlc for all 171 games. it gives me something to buy, since I can't have over 2 grand in my account, being on disability. I would've bought the dlc anyway, which would've crushed any savings. that's before I had a ps5. now, I have two ps5 games, and one more that I want to get, final fantasy vii remake with the yuffie dlc. as you know, I want kingdom hearts all in one, which is far superior to the crap the switch will be getting. then, I might get tales of berseria, even though I have it on my exploited switch (just don't actually own it as it's a pirated copy). I might get final fantasy xv as well. the point being, I now have two systems to buy games on where before I just had the switch. I can't really upgrade my setup like tv and receiver and stuff 'til I get rid of my entertainment center. right now, I'm using an assortment of cables and adapters in a very confusing maze, so it's just games for now that I spend money on mostly (and amiibos/controllers).

It's just too bad the emulation is bad.
I'm sure games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force, well, games by Rare overall will have major issues when no action is taken. Donkey Kong 64 had so bad input lag on the Wii U, so it would be even worse on this service. It felt like a half of a second input lag, even on CRT, so it would be almost if not more than a second of input lag on this service. Even the Wii's bare bones emulator is better. Barely any input lag.
But still, this is 2021, not like 1999 or early 2000s emulator which feels like it if you're in the water temple of Ocarina of Time.

DK64 also used linear interpolation on Wii U, which made it awful.

Pretty soon Nintendo will be releasing 1 new game per year on this service, never fix any of the emulation issues, and fans will still eat it up.

I think the reason they are only adding one game after two months is because they know they won't have a lot of games to add over the lifetime of this service. Do you remember the N64 catalog on the Virtual Console? It was quite small compared to other platforms.

And considering that they clearly don't care about improving the value and overall quality of service (that is, licensing more games from other publishers and developing good emulators for each one of them) it just makes the situation even worse.
