Gaming Nintendo DS Lite with R4 problem.

I have had a ds lite for a few years now. I started having a problem recently that makes me unable to play my ds with or without r4. So what happens is, i plug the system in to charge. The green light starts flashing. I try turning it on with the switch. Nothing. Sometimes when i press random buttons, it turns on for 12 seconds and goes back to flashing green. This cannot be an R4 issue because it happens without it inserted. What do i do? does anyone else have this issue. is there a simple fix? If i have to get a new ds, i might just get a card for my 3ds that plays these games. I heard acekard works on 3ds but i do not know.
