New Nintendo 3ds XL Japanese how to region swap

I made a thread about this a while back, but I am not sure what the current consensus is since I have read that nintendo is closing all their online services for 3ds. There was a step where you had to have another Japanese 3ds in order to system transfer and clear the memory to connect to the US store. Since the store is gone, what real benefit is there to using the system transfer method?

Only benefit now is to use the eshop to update your games that are the same region as the system eshop region.

You still be able to download updates and redownload purchased content.
