Yes, but it's easy to do with just a fingernail. The shells tend to pop off much easier than regular gamecarts.

It is inconvenient, but most users won't need to use the ntrboot feature more than once.

I do too if the price isn't $5 more than the original.

Yes, of course.
R4i gold RTS can also support NTR boot by flashing it use ntrboot_flasher.firm.
R4i gold 3ds plus can swichted bewteen two modes by a switch.
Both are officially supported by WOOD.

I did not know there were multiple version of that cart. I'm stuck with not being able to play Pokemon or MH4 due to lack of memory so it's sitting in storage for ages. Might be able to use it as a mini door stopper?

I asked you for the version number for a reason. If it's version 4-5 it can be supported with the latest commit of ntrboot_flasher.
If it's 6-8 it should be supported before too long.
9+ it should already be supported.
