i cant get punch out to look any good.

No, you can't. Most emulators cannot run either version of Punch Out!! properly.

The only emulator I've found (that can be run on the DS) that comes close to running that game properly is HVCA. It's a GBA mode emulator, so you won't be able to use it if you only have a slot 1 flashcart.

NesterDS tends to be a bit more accurate graphically at the cost of speed, if you'd like to look into that.
