Not necessarily. Mine stopped working all of a sudden, even though I had NEVER used a DL game. I had to replace it (I did use USB loaders though that was in the days of cIOS36 rev9 when half the games needed a disc in the drive)

It stopped reading discs for some reason...

It may make no difference, but it wouldn't hurt...try getting a DVD lens cleaner (I know Nintendo makes one).

ok.......i have a 4.2 firmware,i had it for 3-4 years.
i have hacked this wii before and then i accidently updated it...

He means that Brawl had something to do with your problem because it was on a Dual Layer DVD

I have 2 wiis on 4.2 with usb loaders, they work great and I dont have to worry about the kids scratching up my originals I bought.

I would recommend configurable usb loader or wiiflow....both are excellent.

USB loader on firmware 4.2?

as long as you have backup loading cios (249;222;etc), then you could use usb loaders in any system menu.
