Mother 4 fangame still in active development, is now an entirely new game renamed as "Oddity"
You might recall that a few years ago--a decade, in fact--back in 2010, a team of fans banded together to create the sequel that Nintendo would not: Mother 4. The fangame looked every bit the part that a new Mother entry would, with the same visual style as its more official predecessors. It would tell the tale of three kids and a biker gang leader, dealing with trippy enemies and weird locations. For years, those fans worked on Mother 4, hoping to one day release it in winter of 2014. As we all know, that never happened. Whether due to a secret cease and desist sent by Nintendo, who has actively thwarted fanmade games before such as AM2R and Pokemon Uranium, or not, it seemed that the project had been put on hold.
Now, all those years of waiting have been rewarded, as the Mother 4 fangame team is back, and has revealed their reborn project to the public. Mother 4 has now been renamed to "Oddity", and is a brand new official indie game. It still looks very much like its inspiration, from the look of the text boxes, to the character designs, and especially the battle system.
ODDITY is a surreal urban fantasy role playing game set in the Seventies. Play as Travis Fields, an ordinary boy who leaves home in a bid to save the world Travis takes to the field armed with a baseball bat and pellet gun... Along with powers he's only now discovering. It might have something to do with that "Gate" thing that blew up on an impromptu camping trip... ...Whatever the case, the world's in danger! People are crabby, demons run amok, the moon's covered in creepy ooze, a bear did something... And to top it all off, there's even a secret society called the "Modern Men" popping up lately. They might be behind all the recent kidnappings... But don't worry! You'll make plenty of friends as you fight your way through this weird and groovy world! If you're looking for a roadtrip full of oddball characters and serious challenge with lots of heart... then ODDITY is for you!
As it stands, there is no release date for Oddity, though when it does hopefully, eventually release, it'll be free to download, on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
