Here is another bit of info on my problem stated above...
I went back and tried the older 43mod guide from a few months ago. In that guide, it uses Wad manager 1.7 and installs IOS41-64-v2835.wad as the first step after getting HBC installed. I tried this guide, and upon trying to install the IOS41...wad mentioned, I get a RET -1035 error. Tried a few times and keep getting this error. I'm using the same known-good SD card that I have used many times in the past. Is there any reason why this method will not work on a 4.3U wii, but it worked a few months ago? What are the possible reasons why I am getting this -1035 error?
My next step was to try using the next most recent 43mod guide that I have used several times, which involves using IOS236 Installer v3 and then using MMM v13.4 to install the wad's. I guess this method probably gives the same end result as the most current guide using YAWM, but is less automated. Anyway, I gave it a try and all steps were successful. But again, same stack dump when launching GX.
Try the USB Loader GX thread in the backup loader section. As I said previously, nothing has changed in the end result of the guide (only USB Loader GX has changed)... Also, the reason why you can't install IOS41 is because it is stubbed in the latest update I believe. That is why the guide had to change, but the end result is the same. I don't know if he has an internet connection, or if USB Loader GX uses the no ios reload tag, but you could try removing that from the meta.xml as there is a bug which makes the wii crash when using AHBPROT and not having a valid internet connection.
Is there a tool to remove the IOS41 stub so I can try that method of softmodding? That older guide also uses IOS15 and I think some older revisions of cIOS's. Not sure if the end result will be the same or different, but it seems to be worth a shot.
Yes, the wii has an active internet connection during the softmod process.
To rule out USB Loader GX, I tried installing Configurable USB Loader. It gives me a 30 second timeout... doesn't find the hard drive. I took that same hard drive, and connected it to a known-good modded wii, along with the same SD card with Configurable USB Loader, and it works. So I know the SD card is good, the Configurable USB Loader wad is good, and the hard drive loaded with games is good. I think this narrows my problem down to either something conflicting with my 4.3U softmod process (even though all steps were successful), or perhaps the USB port is dead?? Is a dead USB port a common problem on the wii? Is there an easy way to check it without having a game disc that uses a microphone or other peripheral?
Or perhaps the latest menu version of 4.3U is not compatible with the guide. Can anyone else confirm if they've done a 4.3 update through nintendo in the past few days, and then successfully completed the guide?
