Shigeru Miyamoto has a habit for developing games that show off the strength of new Nintendo platforms -- and it sounds like he's planning on doing so once again for the 3DS. Speaking to Edge, Miyamoto explained now that Nintendo has finished developing the 3DS hardware, it can "focus more on gaming" in the coming year, adding that we can expect "remakes of games on 3DS as well." When asked for a specific title he'd like to see remade, Miyamoto reached into his own back catalog, answering, "I think A Link To The Past."

Deciding that wasn't enough of a pseudo-sadistic tease, Miyamoto explained some of the functionality he'd like to see in a 3DS Link to the Past remake. "Do you remember Xevious," Miyamoto asked. "It's two-layered and I really wanted to create that at the time. So to see Link To The Past in two layers would be quite attractive for me." Such a remake sounds just perfect for the 3D Classics section of the 3DS eShop -- a storefront which, serendipitously enough, will play host to a renovated version of Xevious itself.[/p]

Remakes, remakes, remakes.

If this came out on the Virtual Console, that'd be understandable. However, selling it for 40 dollars as a cart would make me give up on Nintendo.

Why? They're obviously going to make new Zelda games for the 3DS. Why not take one of the best (or even the best) Zelda game and put it on the 3DS?

At least we would see a decent Zelda game on a handheld. I have to go back to the Gameboy Color to remember what that feels like.

And no. It is a port.

actually it isn't it has a new dungeon
Just because it has a new dungeon, doesn't mean it's not a port. IIRC Batman Arkham Asylum had more content on the PS3 vs the 360, but you don't consider the PS3 version as a remake of the 360 version.

there's 2 games 1 is lttp and other is 4 sword adventures. if you complete 4 swords (you can only do it with friends) you get a special item which gets carried over to lttp. in dark world pyramid there is a new dungeon you can now access and it's extremely difficult.

A port with an extra dungeon is still a port.

Adding something new, especially something as small as an extra dungeon or a new playable character does not a remake make.

Ys 3 => Ys Oath in Felghana is what a remake is and should be.
For the DS crowd think of Lufia 2 => Lufia - Curse of the Sinistrals as what a remake should be.

No lazy ports with "enhanced graphics" labelled as a remake.

So going by that logic Zelda OOT 3D then is a enhanced port not a remake?

Or is it a remake because it had a graphics make over?

What makes a remake not a port?

Oh and this game would be a sweet remake. Rather a 3DS or a smaller VC remake.

I dunno. I played the living daylights out of the one on the GBA and it was great. If they did remake it again, I would like to see the Four Swords Adventure component kept and expanded into it's own full game as well. A Link to the Past is still great with the current design of over the top 2D, however if they were going to completely remake any 2D Zelda game, it would have to be Link's Awakening.

Port and remake are technical terms. OOT is a remake, it's certainly not a port.

inb4 "What if you port and then change everything." - The final is a remake.

OoT 3D is a remake, there's a decent amount of new things being added and things/places completely redesigned.
The graphics are also overhauled completely, not just an increase in texture res or something lazy like that.

Yeah, so? Just because it includes another game doesn't mean it's not a port (That would make the Super Mario Advance games not be ports of All-Stars just because of Mario Bros.). And just because you can transfer stuff from that game to the other game doesn't count either.
Even if you combine those two, it still doesn't warrant the name "remake" to be slapped on it.

And on the topic of OOT: They overhauled almost everything, since they're completely overhauling the original OOT, adding all sorts of new features, fixing old problems, etc. But the previously mentioned Super Mario All-Stars counts as an enhanced port due to it not changing anything but the graphics (you could say that they changed the game mechanics, but that was due to human error and wasn't intentional).

A remake is something, get ready for it, remade.
If it's the same, it's a port.
If it's the same, with more shit. It's an enhanced port.

Super Mario All-Stars would be a remake.
