yes but what im asking is do i have to read the story?
Just give it a go and anything you don't understand you can look up. I'm sure you'd rather be playing than spending your time reading through wikipedia?

download Metal Gear Solid 4 Database from the PSN store
it blocks anything MGS4 related so it doesnt spoil it and has all info about previous mgs games

wait, it blocks things,, what do you mean?
Well the thing he was talking about, "Metal Gear Solid 4 Database" is a massive database of everything that has happened in the series available from PSN for free. You have the option if you want to, to tell it to block all Metal Gear Solid 4 specific information in case you haven't played it yet. So that way you can play the game spoiler free, and still read up on what happened in previous games.

it blocks the actual mgs4 or mgs database
No, the database is a seperate thing that has all the information for all the games, and it blocks the mgs4 info in the database. So you don't accidentally read something that happens in 4. But really, take my advice, just play the game and not worry about any of this stuff.
