I have a first generation PSP that is still at firmware 2.71. At the time, I was interested in hacking it but was not knowledgeable enough at the time and was afraid of bricking it. I also was afraid of upgrading my firmware in case down the line it would've been better off having an older version. I've done recent research that shows it's a lot easier nowadays to add homebrew (I'm pretty much only interested in running emulators on it) but I see I need to upgrade to 6.60 and I'm just looking for some reassurance that I should go ahead and upgrade or if there's any extra benefits for keeping the old firmware. After all these years keeping it at 2.71, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
Also, if I do need to upgrade to 6.60, seeing how old my firmware is, should I expect any issues trying to upgrade? Seeing that there's been so many updates since 2.71, I'm hoping that just the act of upgrading doesn't brick it.
Any help, advice, or just reassurance is appreciated!
