The R4 is not that special. It just plays DS, GB/GB/GBA(barely), and SNES but it's poor. If you want emulation, get the Supercard DSTwo.

R4 was my first flash cart for my ds lite. It is a cheap solution for what I require. If you only want to play DS lite games, then this is perfect. All the Games that I plays we're smooth and didn't lag at all. I tried snes emulation however there isn't a good one out there (to my knowledge.) There is one that works perfectly but it has no sound. If you want to play GBA games on the DS using R4 you would need an ezflash.

r4 original card is the first card to support nds, but it can just work on NDS/NDSL and just support micro sd 2g. If you want use r4ds to play gba games, then you still need a ezflash 3 in 1 together, and can just work on NDS. So, If you want play more games, then i recommend your choose dstwo, it comes with GBA, SNES emulator and can work on all nintendo console.
It's not the first flashcard to support nds.

Wood R4 is an amazing kernel and through nesDS and GameYob, but SNES and GBA aren't very good. If you want SNES/GBA emulation I suggest going with a Supercard DSTwo.

yes im aware but all i really needed this is so i dont need to carry my crapload of games everywhere i go

EDIT: can i just get the EZ-FLash 3 in 1 and play GBA games and snes that way because i might get that as a cheaper option in the future

GBA with ezflash is not emulation (so it's better)

The EZ-Flash 3-in-1 works perfectly with GBA games since it works through the slot-2, but it does not emulate SNES games. The only decent flashcard that emulates SNES games is the DSTwo because of the on-board CPU and RAM.
