So I'm about to hack my 3ds following 3ds.guide and I saw a part there where it tells to update your system to the latest version. Is that necessary? I've heard alot of things were patched with 11.4.

Is it necessary though? Can I stay in 11.3? And is it safe to play hacked games online?

I don't know at what point of the guide you are. To answer your question, I would need more information about what kind of installation you are doing and at which point you are (installing on firmware lower than 11.4 / updating from A9LH / DSiWare game injection?).

Supposing you are on a lower firmware than 11.4, you click on "get started" on the start page of 3ds.guide. If you follow everything as the guide tells you, there should be no problem. Make sure you download the correct files and choose the right guide for your specific console.

If you successfully installed Boot9Strap, updating your system should not be a problem but I do not want to be responsible for any installed update making you unable to get CFW.

Edit: Well, I need too long to respond! :-D

I am on 11.3. I haven't started hacking the 3ds yet. I can just skip the system updating part, right?

If you have not hacked your console yet, updating will make you unable to get CFW to your console (without neither a second hacked console nor the release of NTRboothax)!

Don't update before you have CFW!

Follow the guide in order! If you think you need to update before you start, you're skipping pretty much the whole guide. As above, updating before installing b9s will make your console unhackable (at least without hardmod or a second CFW console).

You can, but why would you? Just making your life harder. You'll have to use CTR-httpwn to get on the eShop or play online.

I am not thinking of updating before the process, but during the process. I'm just gonna do as you all say now cause now I know everything is fixed and soundhax now work on 11.4

Soundhax has been patched on 11.4 but you can still access Homebrew Launcher by installing it as a .cia via FBI after you completed the guide.

So it's better off if I don't update? In the guide it tells you to update before installing FBI.
I see. As the guide is telling you to do so and the order is right, you will be able to install FBI after updating your system.

After having FBI installed, you can install HBL via FBI.

In general, just be sure to always follow the guide step by step. I appreciate that you read the whole guide before proceeding!

Sorry if I might have confused you a bit. Enjoy hacking your device! Good luck and have fun!

Alright, thank you. Also, where can I get the HBL.cia?

Yes, it is better off if you do not update before hacking. On 11.3, you can downgrade and install B9S WITHOUT another console or hardmodding. In case you're not aware, hardmodding requires soldering (and most likely partial or complete disassembly of the 3DS console). Neither of which I assume you know how to do.

Do you have a surge protector or an UPS?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea but to play the next gen games, you must have those games on internal, or buy the official ssd expansion cards, which are expensive
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, dunno what each one of those are

@MysticStarlight, my PS3 was already modded when my dad bought it for me and my brother
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
A surge protector is a device that protects your electronics from fluctuations. I recommend having your console plugged into one of those
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
An UPS is even better because it has an internal battery that keeps your system on even if the power goes out, but it's much more expensive obviously
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, oh i recall seeing one in some in the houses of some relatives, including my dad's apartment

@MysticStarlight, although whatever device we plug into them stops getting power anyways lol

On the series s/x you can use a external HD but any next gen games must be on your internal ssd, or you can buy a ssd expansion card, but pricey. Any xbone, 360, or og Xbox games can be played from external tho.
