Hacking Homebrew is it necessary to to upgrate ofw after updating cfw

so im gonna update my switch oled to 17.0.1 i saw alot of youtube videos where they say to update ofw after cfw
since i dont wanna use ofw anymore is it really necessary to update it to 17.0.1 too?
