Hacking How to update DSTWO if it won't register on a DS Lite?

I did the thing where you add a b to the end of the update file and wait and that didn't work. I don't what else to do, I think I just wasted some money :/ Any tips are suggested. Everytime I turn it on it says Error has occured please press and hold power button and on a dslite where the game should be, there is just an empty rectangle and If I click it there is only a white screen. From what I have been told, people say its an update failure but I don't know

then your only option is hoping its a contact problem (also try another sd card) clean contacts, paper trick, (search about paper trick on gbatemp) if it doesn't work, there is nothing you can do
