It's OVER!
We thinked that spoofing eShop would be as simple as patching NIM. NO!
You will have the fantastic error : 007-2999
Because you need the latest eShop version.
And you know what? The latest version require 9.6 NATIVE_FIRM.
So, in a nutshell : it won't work. This is the end. Thanks for playing!

I don't think it's a "check".
I think you does need the new one because of :
-perhaps new protocol
-perhaps challenge/answer
-perhaps secure version value
-perhaps...
And it would break the sigs BTW

Never fear, 3DNUS is here! cant we just install the 9.6 Eshop? does 3DNUS have 9.6 titles? can 9.2 and below open that? maybe with gateway firmware spoofing?

Are you sure that this is what's happening?
I know that people in #3dsdev have been able to make the eShop work, so there is a solution, somehow. Whether or not any of us are capable of figuring it out is a different matter, but...

I answered just before you post.
hold on, is this for people who need emunand 9.6 or people without gateway but want to saty on 9.2 or something. because if its an emunand problem, we have CIA's, if its a sysNAND problem then you most likely need a CFW or gateway anyway. and its an antipiracy solution to people using CFW, then i guess well need to keep working

You know more than me, but the error code you listed looks like it's a connection issue, not the result of an outdated eShop.

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wfc/en_na/ds/results.jsp?error_code=007-2999&system=3DS&locale=en_US said:
Error Code: 007-2999
Situation:

An error was encountered when attempting to download a title from the eShop
What to Do:

In order to perform these steps on a New Nintendo 3DS XL, you will need a size #0 cross-head (+) screwdriver to remove the battery cover. You must remove the battery cover to access the microSD card.
  1. Restart the system and attempt the download again. How to
  2. If the issue persists, make sure the system is off and remove the SD card. How to
    • Check that the card is compatible. More info
  3. Check the SD card and ensure it is unlocked. How to
    • microSD cards do not have a lock switch and cannot be locked.
  4. Insert the SD card and turn the system on. How to
  5. If you're still unable to complete the download, try the download again using a different SD Card. How to
    • If another SD card works, this indicates an issue with the original SD card being used.
    • If you wish to continue using the original SD card, reformatting the SD card may resolve this. How to

The error is a bad download. So it can applies perfectly well to eShop (and I'm 100% sure that's the result of an outdated eShop, by elimination)

So yeah, things i tried and was unsuccessful with were...
9.0.0-20E n3ds sysnand, NTR 2.2
(latest versions correspond to the 9.6.0-24 versions listed here)

Just plain patching NIM as per the OP... result = Error Code: 007-2999 after opening eshop.
Tried to initialize a system transfer... result = Error Code: 014-0100
Installed just the latest eshop version (v17421)... result = hangs on the Nintendo 3ds logo after opening it.
Installed both the latest eshop version (v17421) and the latest eShop mint (v10247)... result = Same result as above.
And lastly, just for the hell of it tried to install the 9.0 versions of both eshop and mint spoofed to the latest version... result = obviously they didn't install.

Well, it was a fun journey. :)

Not sure how many people this applies to on GBATemp, but if (like me), you don't pirate content, not having eShop access is a big deal. There's no way to purchase to digital games, and there's no way to install updates to retail games without obtaining the updates illegally.

(Honestly, you have to question Nintendo's logic in not allowing access to the application where people give them money. But I digress...)

And, you know, 002-0102 is referenced as a connectivity issue on Nintendo website, and we all know that's not the case.

I don't understand the correlation between a bad download and an outdated eShop. They seem completely unrelated.

But that's just it: error 002-0102 is listed as a connectivity error. That's the generic "catch-all" explanation Nintendo's website provides for errors about which it has no specific information. Error 005-5958 is the same way. If you actually call Nintendo's support about these errors, they'll tell you they have no entries for them in their databases.

Error 007-2999, however, is an actual error code with a specific meaning.

They are related. As you try to connect with an outdated eShop (i.e. with a bad protocol or whatever), Nintendo thinks that eShop wasn't downloaded properly.
