Hacking How to connect a 3DS with R4i 3DS to Internet without updating?

First, I want to give information about the 3DS and the cart:
- Nintendo 3DS ver. 4.3.0-4E
- R4i-SDHC 3DS ver. 1.67b

So I'm going to buy the Animal Crossing: New Leaf game, and I wanted to play with my friends online connecting it to Internet. However, if I connect it to Internet, it will most likely update and my R4i 3DS would stop working.

I already have some 3DS games, and I had to update the 3DS to play them. With my first two games, nothing happened, the cart was still working, but with a game I bought this January (NSMB2), the cart got blocked, so I updated the cart. And it was working again.

What scares me is the chance of getting my cart blocked permanently or maybe even having my 3DS bricked! I have a few questions:
- After buying the AA: NL game, will it require updating? Will it be possible to update the cart too and have it working again or it will break permanently? What 3DS version will I get after that?
- If I connect the 3DS to Internet, will it update? Will it be possible to update the cart too and have it working again or it will break permanently? What 3DS version will I get after that?
- Is there any "patch" or way to make the 3DS not update or making this update not affecting my cart?

Please, help me, I'm going to buy this game tomorrow, and thank you a lot!

a online 3ds will not update automatically
it will only download the update and then nag you to install it on every start
but experience says that its only a matter of time till the yes button somehow ends up being pressed
(see eg the people trashing their wii game collection via WBFS and Windows nagging to format)

if you only use the wifi at certain places
you might be able to block the online update via the router
(but idk the addresses)

every game has a minimum required firmware version
(it comes with an update to that version too)
currently that check cant be circumvented
ac:nl apparently has 5.1.0.*

unfortunately no tutorial, all routers are different, check your manual

NO. you need eshop for the DLC and that requires the update.

It's not asked me to update once... I always start wifi while in the game but that could just be Mario Kart? If someone else could confirm it too

Ok, I connected to Internet and there wasn't any problem. But when I try to play MK online, it wants me to download the latest version of that program in the eShop...

Oh you don't have the update downloaded from before? Connecting to eShop would force a update sadly..
Does Animal crossing require any update? Also remember to turn off wifi when not in game

I updated it once because it wanted me to do it before playing the game for the first time.
I think so, since it wanted me to do it with many other games...

That's strange, I've only updated Mario kart once too and that was the 1.1 update and it's not asking for anything else now
