You need to update your 3DS firmware to whatever the latest right now is in order to access the eshop...
So I will really need to update, then, right? I don't mind doing it, but I don't want my R4i 3DS to get bricked.

R4i: Broken.
I get the typical black screen with white letters. What should I do now?
My version is 6.1.0-12E right now.

First you need the addresses in question.
Someone needs to set up his inet connection to capture all traffic and monitor it live for dns requests and new connections
(eg with wireshark)
then connect a unupdated 3DS and and wait for it to try to download the update
this should then be interrupterd as soon as possible (to be able to try again)
(since I don't want that "update me" nag screen ever again I'm out of that)
see where it connected to and block that dns-name/ip
repeat (to catch the next server on the list) until it does not connect to anyone anymore

Maybe someone did this already, idk, search the net

With only "a router" to go on its impossible to tell you exactly how to block the addresses once you know them
Maybe it can't even to it, who knows
Best advice is to look on the net for a router that can and buy it
And this time keep the manual
(Can't suggest one, I only use openwrt and thats probably not what you want)

Grasping at straws you could try to look through all of it's config options and look for something that sounds like it
then post a screenshot for us to look at
