Background:
Recently my SD card got corrupted after using GBARunner2. When trying to load into TwilightMenu, I got the error message "fat init error". When plugging the SD card into my PC, I could see that the GBA rom folder was completely corrupted, with almost all file names and folders being renamed in caps, shortened and with typos. These files and folders were impossible to move or delete. After trying several fixes the SD card turned into RAW format. Running a verify scan using "DiskGenius" revealed that 50% of the sectors were "severe" and 22 were damaged. This was impossible to fix, so I have now bought a new card. Thankfully they are quite cheap. (Only 6 bucks!)

SD card:
A genuine PNY Elite 32 GB micro-SD card with a SD card adapter, formated as FAT32. It was bought from one of the leading electronics store chains in the Nordics (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland).

Console:
I'm playing on a DSi XL that I bought brand new. I have not installed CFW on it. I'm using the Flipnote Lenny exploit to launch into the TwilightMenu loaded on the SD card.

I don't really remember what I did, but is this likely to happen if you turn off the power while a game is loading or saving? How can I minimize the risk of corrupting the SD card in the future while playing GBA and DS games via TwilightMenu on the SD card?

I am not sure why that happened. It could be an error from a certain app or the exploit, or it could be a faulty SD card/adapter. The issue might be from GBARunner2 with your exploit.

Personally, I have installed Unlaunch and Twilight on my DSi and have never experienced this issue. I believe that I am using Sandisk Ultra and Samsung micro SD cards with Samsung SD adapters. Unlaunch allows you to install CFW on a DSi and checking if the CFW exists before booting into it. If there is an issue with the CFW or SD card, Unlaunch launches into its own environment instead of bricking the DSi.

Definitely sounds like the card is on its death bed. PNY isn't the most well-known brand, usually people will recommend using SanDisk or Samsung.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
