You need to take the PSP apart, right down to it's motherboard, and then solder a connection between the USB socket and the power board. PSP 1000's can't natively USB charge.

Option 2) solder the charger plug (it is a fairly standard one) to a USB cable http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml

I did that for mine and several associates.

Not sure what there is to link up short of the actual wiring

Although strictly speaking a USB device will need to ID itself before drawing more than 100ma 99.99% of USB ports on computers and such will forgo this and allow it to draw the full 500ma from the get go and never so much as receive a data packet.
If you look on the PSP itself there will be a symbol like the one on the left of the following image
500px-AC_adaptor_polarity.png

Except on my PSP here the circles around the pos and neg are squares.

The short version of that is take the USB lead, solder on a power terminal of the correct size with the red lead going to the positive pin (the central hole) and the black one going to the ground/negative (the outer "case")- if you pull apart a really cheap and nasty lead they sometimes use different colours but the wiring in terms of pins stays the same so just do a continuity or resistance test if you can get a multimeter. My favourite source of plugs are those really cheap and nasty "universal" wall plugs they sell at cheap household goods shops (not quite dollar/pound/euro stores but heading that way) that would normally have trouble powering an LED but do have nice ends to cut off and play with (definitely check but the striped side, if there is one, is usually positive). Bonus is you might also have a lead that can power other devices (5v is a commonly required voltage after all).

Also I probably should have mentioned it before but you can buy this sort of thing

I've been to his chicken restaurant he started in his 2nd movie, Holy Chicken, was pretty good. It is only 15-20 miles from me in Ohio. It only lasted 1 yr or so then closed tho.

There are very few people I just have just an immense dislike of and he's one of those very few people, the only other example is Gene Simmons. My musician uncle on my mother's side of the family actually met Gene once during some event and said he was the most unpleasant person to be around.
