from my personal experience. Super glue doesnt seem to hold long. The 3DS XL heavily relies on that part when opening and closing. Ive dealt with quite of bit of these from fixing family members 3ds handhelds and ive tried different glues and theyve all lasted from a few days to a few minutes. The best solution and all successes ive had and can think of is to buy the shell and replace it. But be aware, its not as easy as people think it is. As long as the top screen and ribbons are still in place, it shouldnt be too difficult. Maybe others have different results but thats my opinion.

This is why i hate hinges the ds fat the gb sp have stronger plastic so it isn't a problem but with the 3ds and ds lite and dsi it is. drop it and it hits the hinge it will crack. i don't really take electronics apart so idk if i will be able to do it with out breaking it further.
