I recently got a used psp1000 from a friend.

They gave to me first to try and fix it. I thought it was the screen but chances are its not.

Ok heres were Im at any imput would be great.

I can turn the psp on hear all the starting screen and after I can hear the curser move in the xmb but no video.

Thinking it was the screen I bought a new one from goldenbridge and recieved it today.
I opened up the psp to replace the screen did everything real careful just in case didnt want to brake anything.
I unhooked the 2 ribbons and plug the new ones back in
Put all the screws back together and still it powers on with sound but no video.

They wont tell me if it was modded or not.
they wont tell me the truth about what happened when it messed up.

hopefully someone can help me out here thanks Soopa

try using recovery menu (done by powering on while holding R trigger) then go to configuration. look for the "skip sony logo". if it's enabled then Disable it. i'm really sure it's the one you're looking for.

To me it seems like its not modded so it wont go to the recovery menu.

I only get a black screen with audio when I start the psp up.

They finally told me this afternoon that the psp had wine spilt on it.
Weird how theres sound but no audio even after replacing it with a new one.

Thanks for the help but I just cant use it.

May sound strange, but try this:
1)Take out the battery, open UMD case and the memory stick cover and take out any UMD/memory stick present in the PSP.
2)Keep the battery cover and the battery seperately in a safe place.
3)Keep your PSP upside-down with the UMD case, battery cover and memory stick cover open and put it under direct sunlight.
4)Let it stay there for a day or two without any interference.

Thats it. It should work after that. Try it and tell me if it worked.

Also, you can get an A/V cable for your PSP and connect it to the TV to see if the display comes on the TV. Attach the cable to the PSP and the TV then hold the display button which is next to the music note button. This will help you to check if the problem lies with the screen.

So far I left it in the sun for 3 hours and still nothing no video.

Could this maybe a brick?

Ill try hooking it up to the tv later today and see how that goes thanks for all the help.

PSP-1000s have no AV-out port.

Sounds like somethings gone pop in the graphics chip.

That does sound strange.

PSP1000s don't have av output ports. Those were introduced in the 2000 model.
Whoops. Didn't notice someone else said that.

Most likely the video IC on the motherboard has been damaged/shorted due to the liquid being spilled on it. If the av/out works then the IC is only partially damaged, however I wouldn't assume that it's going to be functional in your particular case. You could always buy a second hand motherboard off of ebay or another distributor to fix your problem.

shine a light at the screen and see if you can see anything - incase it's the backlight not getting power.

IF there is sound but no video, it can't be a brick.

Try opening it up again and look for (possibly) anything interfering with the ribbon cable, or the port.

Just to confirm it's actually working, hook it up to a USB cable and turn it on. If it's on a relatively recent firmware it should automatically go to USB Mode if it's not borked.

I just held a flashlight up to the psp screen and in the background I can kinda see the xmb

What might be a fix for that?
Im guessing it has to do with the blacklight or whatever its called.
