GETTING WIFI TO WORK ON DESMUME

First you will need a couple of things:

A Computer(of course)
A wired internet connection (via LAN cable)
Win PCap(PROVIDED)
A wi-fi compatible DesmuME(PROVIDED)
Any wi-fi compatible game.(DO NOT ASK FOR ANY LINKS TO ROMS OF COURSE....)



STEP 1 : Download this pack DesmuME wifi pack this contains Win Pcap and the other things you will need. Also a version 0.9.7 of desmuME with wifi capabilities enabled by slytherx HERE.Whichever version of desmume you are using ( 32 or 64 bit) in its own folder... along with any other files the emu may need in that same folder along with it.



STEP 2: Unzip contents and Install Win Pcap.After installation make sure and give Win Pcap exceptions in all firewall software..When installing Winpcap..check the option for starting the driver as windows starts up.



STEP 3: Open DesmuME(IMPORTANT NOTE....ALL WINDOWS 7/WINDOWS VISTA USERS MUST OPEN DESMUME AS AN ADMINISTRATOR OR ELSE AN ERROR WOULD OCCUR WHEN CONNECTING TO WIFI" and go to Config--->Emulation settings. Now set the correct paths for the ARM 7 BIOS, ARM 9 bios and Firmware bin...of course it would be wherever you downloaded it to...Make sure the "Use external Bios image" "Use external firmware image" ,"Boot from firmware like the nds" AND "Enabled Advanced bus level timing" are all checked...I am not sure about the rest so leave them unchecked.. It would now look like this...

STEP 4: IN desmuME still go to Conifg---> wifi and click on "Infrastructure mode"



STEP 5:Now open your game and go into Nintendo Wi-fi settings and search for an access point...u should see "SOFT AP" as one...test connection to that and it should work...I think this must be done every time you open/close the emulator....(Hey can't be too perfect)

TRYFORCE's TUTORIAL ON GETTING WIFI TO WORK ON DesmuME ON ANDROID COMPATIBLE DEVICES

Android users are in luck!!! I just tested WFC in pokemon black according to the op's tutorial except my connection to the internet is via USB tether to my Andoid phone!
I have a rooted MyTouch 3G (I'll try it on my new MyTouch 4g next week).
I'm running a hacked ver. of Cyanogen 6.1 Signed. I'm simply using Cyanogen mod's built-in USB tether.

Here's what I did:
a. Follow Lune's directions for DesmuME and winPcap setup.
b. Disconnect your current active internet connection.
c. Plug your 3g/4g data capable android device into a USB (2.0) port in your PC.
d. Set your phone to tether via USB. In Cyanogen 6.1 this can be done via Settings->Wireless & networks->Tethering. Check the box next to usb tethering.
e. Verify that you have established an internet connection. Windows 7 sees my device as a network adapter called "Remote NDIS based internet sharing device". Regardless of the device ID, you should have a valid IP and be able to browse the web.
f. Restart Windows (This is necessary to let winpcap work "its magic").
g. Don't forget to run desmume as administrator in Windows 7/Windows vista!!
h. In desmume's wifi settings (config->wi-fi), you should see your android device's manufacturer in the dropdown box. Mine simply said "HTC". Select it.
i. You should be set!

Again, this was tested on a rooted mytouch 3g running Cyanogen 6.1. Results may vary. I can probably help some people who need it. For more information about rooting your android device, check out the cyanogen mod forums (make sure you understand the risks involved).

ERROR TROUBLESHOOTING

BEFORE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING MAKE SURE THESE THINGS ARE DONE FIRST:
-Again..have a wired connection by a cable (lan cable)
-Run desmuME as an administrator
-"For anyone getting 'Unable to get IP address' or 'Unable to connect to Nintendo Wi-fi network' errors, you need to check your router firewall settings. I use DD-WRT and an enabled SPI Firewall will not allow you access, disabling that let everything work fine.(by Forumpost)
-Disabling any firewalls that you think would be blocking the process...
-WINDOWS 7/WINDOWS VISTA users must go to network and sharing center and make sure that your connection type is set to HOME network and NOT PUBLIC OR WORK(work may work but meh)
-In the Wi-fi settings in desmume make sure it is set ton infrastructure mode and also the correct bridging is enabled with your ETHERNET CONTROLLER (your network adapter)
- Try pressing tab when connecting to nintendo wi fi connection..weird but might work

Emulator doesn't save: You would have to go into PATH SETTINGS and set your own paths for screenchots,cheats,roms,saveram etc.

Error Code 52000/52001/52002:Check your modem status and change it from bridging to PPPOE or PPPOA(sometimes work).Also double check the WEP key you entered(if used).Make sure if your on windows 7 that you have run the emulator as an administrator and also check that it's connection is an exception in your firewall/antivirus software

Error Code 52100:There could be Ip address conflict going on...you will have to give your ds its own ip address rather than using dhcp to find its own..check HERE
for help on doing that(too long to type..).Also you can try chaging the dns to 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 4.2.2

Error with saving wifi settings: "try keeping the external bios and firmware but without booting to ds on."

I get everything working fine except that i have to re-enter everything everytime i restart emulation.

I have both bios loaded (7 and 9) and externaliy loading the firmware (im guessing it cant save to the external file and change it)

I keep getting the

Firmware: Save config - failed everytime the ds tries to save any info (nick, date, friends)

Any1 got a solution? (I tried in both the 0.9.7 and 0.9.6 versions.. cant save settings in either only you dont get system msg in 0.9.6)

Managed to connect to a game and even enter a world together except the system gets spammed shitloads with

"crap we're gonna nuke a packet at 2/69 (0080)"

sometimes it disconnects from nintendo wfc aswell with error code :91010

Sometimes with error code: 85020

does anyone know if this can work with a 2wire modem/router because I dont think you can change the firewall settings on it

I'm positive that it does because that is the modem I'm running. To get it to work I didn't tamper with the firewall settings at all. Instead I used a wireless connection and it works fine everytime. However when I tried to use a wired connection as per the tutorial it didn't go through at all. So try using wireless and see if it works. If it does then we now know that for all 2wire routers/modems you need to be on a wireless channel. If not... I don't know lol... Are you sure you are bridging through your ethernet adapter?

Keep on getting error code 52000 unable to obtain IP address........I'm using windows XP

Makes sure firewall's are diabled or add exceptions to any firewalls/antivirus etc..
In windows 7 that error usually occurs when a program isnt run as administrator as a Popup usually comes up asking to continue a connection(which you should get) and then you can connect.But also this error can be a DHCP related problem also as you may have to fill in your own ip addres and other things... Type "cmd" in RUN to bring up command prompt.Then type "ipconfig /all" in command prompt to bring up information on your connection....Copy the first 3 digits of your IPV4 address as u see in command prompt into the DS configuration screen but change the last number to 10 higher than what you see...

Example if you see 192.168.1.123 change it to 192.168.1.133 in your ds...

Also copy all other settings like the Subnet mask, Default gateway Primary and Secondary DNS also...BUT DO NOT CHANGE THESE!!
Then try a connection..also check to make sure you set it to infrastructure mode and also your connection should be wired.

I changed all of my settings on the DS and now instead of getting Unable to Obtain IP adress I get error 52100 Unable to connect to Wi-fi x_x
any help?

Well Lune yes I have gotten it to work on a wireless connection. Actually I keep getting unable to connect errors on my wired connection. I'm not positive how I did it because what happened was I was randomly trying it and I forgot that my computer automatically goes to a wireless connection when I start it. So I just did the usual connection test and it said connection successful and I was like OMG. So then I went on the GTS and I tried it and it worked perfectly. I basically followed your tutorial and I do not boot from firmware like a ds and my configs and FC is still saved so I dont have to re enter infomation every time.

Im running a windows 7 64 bit, ive manually filled in my ip address and did everything but i still cant get it to work

Frst a box pops up and says Desmume WFC warning
-connecting to Nintendo WFC may cause problems or something and that nintendo would not appreciate

Then i say yes i want to resume and then the connection test goes on forever and doesnt stop.

Please help!!!

Hallo, I have followed all the instructions to get wifi connection in my DesmuMe. My question is must we use only wi-fi connection? I use LAN connection but I can't get the connection in my desmuMe.
The other problem is why my desmuMe always states: Firmware: save config - failed, is that the problem?

I think the answer is easy to say that you make another user account log into that account and then locate your wifi dsemume by going to my comptuer --> C: ---> docs and settings ---. then your other username

I completely followed all your steps, but when I went to connect I got error code 52000. So, I followed the above suggestion, changed my router to PPPOE, and input my WEP key, did a trail connection and got error code 51100, which basically says confirm your WEP key. I've read other forums that suggest I use my SSID, so I did that and my WEP key, and got error code 51099. So I tried something else, did the SoftAP SSID, with my WEP Key, and manually inputed my IP address, subnet mask, gateway, primary DNS and Secondary DNS and got an invalid information message, and I also tried all previous information with my SSID, and still got an invalid information message.

I really have no idea what to do now, because every solution I have looked up and tried has not worked, and Im trying to use it in Pokemon Black. Please help!

Hello,

I have got desmume working on a wireless connection, (I shall write a tutorial and have links to drivers to make it functional). So far it works on Heart Gold Soul Silver roms, and I have done battles to test, the only problem I have is with Black and White.

It cannot connect to the union room, giving an error of 91010... but It can connect to the random battles wifi, but when looking for opponents the connection drops.

It says connection successful, when I do a softAP test in the DS wifi menu.

I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this issue? Maybe its the AP Patch I am using with the rom?

The people that have got Black and white running on wifi with lan, which rom patches are you using/ are you using the translated roms or full english?

I hope someone can answer my query, and so then I can be confident in posting my wireless internet tutorial for you all.

On the off chance, for those of you that are NOT able to get this to work, did you use the DeSmuME that was in the downloaded wincap from the first post? If so, it does not work. You need to download 0.9.7 from the second link. That one works. Nothing i was able to do was able to make 0.9.6 work.

So, try 0.9.7, and let me know if it works.

Hey guys, i've been playing wifi battles on desmume. Random Matchup (Free Mode) seems to be working fine but when I battle in rating mode (which you have to register in pokemon-gl.com) my record resets. It goes back to 0. I've checked my records at pokemon-gl.com, it also resets. Kinda frustrating. I got 11 wins already and it went back to 0. Any fixes for this problem? I've seen someone here who is also experiencing the same problem.






Btw, if you're experiencing difficulties with the wifi setup on desmume, check youtube for tutorials =]

then I was able to get a trade until last second it pops out a communication error, please turn off the power
Since the game was not saved I didn't get the trade pokemon
anyone can help me on that?
