check out www.ibuypower.com i used the site and loved it some ppl might say it sucks

it seems your going for a cheap pc ? are you going to game heavly ?

if you just want a pc to surf the web you cant beat dell with coupons

Il probley go game heavly. But im picking cheap stuff. Il probley spend all my cash on building a PC then buying a Xbox 360.

if your going to build a gaming pc i would recomend at least 1000 dollars on a PC alone anything else you might not like the performance of the games :-(

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com

I've bought from them many times. It's super cheap - sometimes cheaper than buying the parts and building yourself. Be warned if you plan to upgrade though: They employ monkeys to wire the PCs, the insides are a mess. (But it works)

But I'll give you a basic rundown of any good PC now:
E6600 or E6400
Mobo that works with it
2GB of RAM (G.skill is ~$50)
8800GT or Radeon 3870
Case
600w PSU

Cost ~ $800
(~$850 if you go for Cyberpower)

For a monitor, the Dell 2407WFP is the best 24" (well, there is 1 better, but it's $150 more) and Samsung 226CW for 22"

If you are building, http://www.newegg.com is the best for general stuff

You can also build a cheap gaming computer by getting a Dell and just upgrading the graphics card.

Yes he does. His business requires him to have a Windows Vista Format. Not his fault, he likes XP anyway.

hmm.. if your buying or building a new pc u might wanna pick one up with the latest generation of core 2 duo or quad processors. Not really sure if your dad or you is gonna be using the computer more but intel released a new line of up core 2 duo processors which are at a pretty good price for a pretty good speed. Try to get a computer with Wolfdale Processor Family: Core 2 Duo E8500, E8400 and E8200. Saves you from having to upgrade soon in the future. But if you are getting it i would act fast cause they are gonna sell out

anyway vista is not a good os, trust me.

His work says he needs Vista because that's what the IT guy tells the boss. He isn't going to go out on a limb and disagree, possibly risking his job, because you say he needs it. I've used Vista for eight months, and with sp1, there isn't anything wrong unless you need specific apps which he doesn't.

Yes, there is something wrong with it... look at the ridiculous amount of resources it uses, the lack of app compatibility, etc etc etc. If the tech guy is really that ignorant...

Recertified: HP Pavilion M8120N(GC674AAR) Core 2 Quad Q6600(2.40GHz) 3GB DDR2 640GB NVIDIA GeForce 7350LE Windows Vista Home Premium
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16883107505
660USD

Slot in an 8800GT and you're set.
Would say the exact same thing. Some of these systems that you can get these days are fantastic for the most part and are a great basis for those that are not so savy at diy systems. Even then the prices are amazing in some cases. Helped a buddy of mine pick up a Q6600, 4GB DDR2 Acer comp for just under $799 CAD followed by the 8800 GT and a new power supply which I might as well suggest one may be needed here as well depending on the psu in it already.

Personally, I built an E6750, 2GB DDR2 800MHz, 8800 GT comp a couple weeks ago for myself.
The card is just pure awesome in a box.

And about the Vista remarks from above users, do we really need to derail another topic for this debate?

Who is ignorant now? Vista uses a lot of RAM because of a service that stores frequently used data in RAM so the programs that need it launch faster - and if you are using something that needs that RAM, it clears. Turned off, and tweaked a bit, Vista idling (with firewalls and AV) uses 400-600mb of RAM. Still less with a game.

I would say I'm a power user, and I'll admit that some apps didn't work for me. But I quickly found an app that did the same thing and did work.
