The positives? It's creativity and uniqueness is what really makes this game flourish. It's a fresh idea that deviates from the standard shooter. The conceptual idea of Splatoon is probably what garnered it so much attention, and the constant updates to the game is what keeps players always coming back for more.
I'm not saying Splatoon doesn't have positive sides, I'm saying that Splatoon not having a decent online is a clear negative point, no matter how you face it. Honestly, I don't find Splatoon so creative or Unique, for me it's the kind of game that is fun for the first 30 minutes, and then it gets boring. But this is my opinion, the same way you find it unique and creative. We gotta separate the opinions from the facts.
It's interesting you make an argument on Splatoon not on its gameplay, but on its server... which albeit, not great, but does not impact the game to the point where it is dreadfully unplayable.
If the FPS sucks at playing online it sucks as FPS as well, the biggest selling point of nowaday FPSes is playing online
No story mode for mario maker makes complete sense to me. At that point it would be two products rolled into one, rather than just a create-and-share-your-own. If they had a story mode, I could see the argument being "Nintendo is trying to hedge its bets, by having a normal mario game and this mario-maker combined. They should have more faith in their products". Unless you mean why can't you link stages together, as-in custom made stages are completed in a specific order. I agree with that, that'd certainly add a lot of fun. But it'd probably make it a bit more complex to share easily (which was probably their concern). Maybe it'll be free DLC at some point.
If that was the argument I could say Nintendo should have never released New Super Luigi U, "they should have faith in their products.
Having a story mode is great and I think that Super Mario Maker alone is not worthy of 60 bucks, not even worthy been a physical copy,
if it had a story mode than that should be acceptable.
Splatoon works fine for me when I use the usb-ethernet. I know Mario kart 8 use to give me loads of trouble until I used a usb-ethernet. Though I can see it being super frustrating if you're having difficulties. If splatoon servers are giving you trouble, I completely recommend it.
And I definitely find loads of negatives for both, things I would like to be changed. But. those apply only to me. I can easily see those things not bothering anyone else.
If you have to use some accessory for it to work as expected, and it wasn't supposed to be that way, then there is something clearly wrong with the game or the console.
You say critical analyses, as if that isn't opinion, but all you're doing is critically analyzing a game in relation to how you like it, and what's important to you. This poll is about what you personally got from a game, if you had fun. If someone only played 1-player splatoon because they have no internet, and absolutely adored it, does that mean they're objectively wrong about loving it because the servers sucked when you played it?
When you make a critical analyses you evaluate the game as whole, if it servers sucks it's a negative point, no matter how you face it and should be taken in consideration, this poll isn't "What's your favorite game of the year" but what should be the GOTY of 2015 be.
As others mentioned this is a narrowing system.

Technically/mathematically it does not play but this GBAtemp and we are not bound by such things as logic, I mean we have mario maker in there after all.
I understand the idea now, but I think if that's the intention than the question of the poll should be a bit different.
Since this site is completely Nintendo biased I can understand why Super Mario Maker is there and having plenty of votes, it's ridiculous but I couldn't expect much better from GBATempers.
