Still Alive DS (NDS homebrew)
Normally we start these with a quick background on the series a game might come from but in this case describing Portal would probably be redundant so we won't. Handheld consoles often see cut down versions of games released on the PC or consoles and shortly behind those in terms of volume are homebrew and game mods aiming at making unofficial entries or straight up remakes of games. Occasionally these efforts are good and have even been known to surpass the original or, in the case of mods, extend the base game's lifetime beyond that of the standard game (indeed some view Portal as a mod made good for Half Life 2 although Team Fortress and Counterstrike are usually the go to examples for the Half Life series).
Enough dancing around the point though as our selection this week is an effort from the prolific homebrew developer t4ils who made a 2d homage to the portal series and in doing so not only created one of the best pieces of homebrew going (indeed it won GBAtemp's first homebrew contest) but a timeless game in the process. Perhaps foreshadowing the eventual release of Portal 2 this game has a few more obstacles than Portal did and on top of that it features a nice level editor.
There was also a port to the Wii in the form of StillAliveWii. Browser based versions and Android versions should also be doing the rounds.

Sadly t4ils' umbrella site seems to be no more (other projects include DiceSoldiers, DroppingSkill, and WormsWarOnline) but this is why we have filetrip.
Filetrip download
We are working on getting a new searching mechanism working with the new forum software now our tag system has been changed. In the meantime all the editions are in this section and hopefully GBAGOTW should get you the other entries in the series. gbagotw.
GBAtempbook game club/GBAtemp game of the week one of GBAtemp's features that aims to provide a place to showcase some of the best and most interesting titles but have any that wish to join in do the reviewing and discussion.
We do wish to note we are not aiming to slowly compile a top ? games list and as such if something had an interesting idea but fell short in execution it could quite easily find itself the focal point of one of these.
The GBA, DS and Wii's rather large libraries of ROM hacks, commercial releases, homebrew code and leaked/beta code as well as the occasion aside into things the DS can emulate are where we tend to pull the selections from.
