It seems that efforts of Flukes1 patching of lv2 to add a working "peek and poke" to allow backups, has been partly blocked by an "anti-lv2-hacking" protection that seems to been recently added by Sony in their v3.55 firmware, so developers will have to find another way around these checks, and they are looking now at patching lv1 so end-users will be able to enjoy all the features that people are whining for like "backup managers", that they had so much enjoyed via the Jailbroken v3.41 systems using the lv2 patching Dongle payloads!

UPDATE: The info below is little wrong, Geohot had nothing to do with anti-lv2 checking, in fact it is SONY themselves that added more checks to make sure lv2 is not PATCHED starting with their new v3.55 firmware
!

So all those flaming Geohot, they should not be, they should be flaming Sony!

Some serious issues that is which they working for it last night with Dean of multiMAN fame.

Then, they found out about geohot’s anti lv2 patching which disrupted whatever they are doing on the lv2 of PS3 security. It is quite expected after what Geohot has mentioned about the lv2 all this time. Afterward, Mathieulh came to help to share some info about the PS3 security, then we had to bear a needless drama from him that makes him leaving without further help. Moment later, we heard about Hermes wanting to help. Nothing heard about that since then. In the end, Flukes1 ends the game unsuccessfully and promised to look on the lv1 next.

Well, what we can conclude from this is that, the previous patched PUP that is reportedly should be working with backups and the homebrews with peek poke syscalls are useless after all. So, i had to take a hard lesson from all of this and had to confirm myself if Flukes1 & Co. ever come up with the new PUP. Which they possibly should considering the situation they are facing. Let’s just hope that will be the final one.

Another site had a member claiming a gbatemper was working on USB/Back-up Manager for offical 3.55. It's my understanding he was suppost to be keeping this info secret til the dev made an offical announcement. Cuz of this person's leak that site lost hope of it being posted there. So for now I'll keep the dev's name to myself.

On-topic: I had a feeling something was quite right with the pup. Glad it's being worked on and I didn't deleted a game I installed threw a pkg. A hour and a half to install a 3.5 gb game is alot of time. I wonder if they'll come up with a scrab program or something to trim out the extra data.

It's also my understanding if you back-up a game your save file from playing the disc doesn't work. What's up with that. I hate to back-up a game I havn't finsihed and have to start from the beginning. Hopefully a save file convertor is produced.

Fuck this PS3 scene! it's the worse scene there ever has been. Instead of other scenes where all the devs work together to get everything working they all just fight amongst themselves. Geohot is a twat, he just lives for the drama

Did you even read the OP? Geohot didn't have anything to do with the anti-lv2 patching.

Doesn't stop him being a glory seeking twat though. PS3 keys, the limera1n scandal last year. He always turns up at the last moment to screw over the rest of the community and get his next 5 mins of media attention.

I think he was complaining about Geohot in general.
Because frankly instead of working to create a unified homebrew scene in co-operation with other modders, he's gone and release his own CFW and signing tools, that in effect give him some level of control over homebrew publication.
In other words Geohot modified homebrew might not work on other CFW, which are bound to pop up since Geohot's own CFW does not allow piracy.

Exactly. Finally someone gets it. By using Geohot's cfw/tools your going from sony being your master to Geo's.

I agree. While I appreciate every thing geo has done for the ps3 scene, I just think he took the wrong approach when releasing the keys as well as his CFW. Instead of saying "With these keys WE can..." he came out and basically said "With these keys I can..".. Does that make sense to anybody? lol
