Q: Can I install homebrew on my DSi?
A: Yes! Follow dsi.cfw.guide to install HiyaCFW on any region or firmware version.

Q: Can I use homebrew without Flipnote Studio?
A: Unless you have a previously installed DSiWare exploit, you'll need to hardmod your DSi and install homebrew that way, however that requires soldering skills and a stable hand.

Q: So can I run ROMs on my DSi?
A: Yep, just install TWiLight Menu++. The guide above should allow you to install it to your Home Menu. TWiLight Menu++ allows you to run commercial DS roms, homebrew, and has various emulators preinstalled.

Q: Unlaunch freezes at MISMATCH IN FAT COPIES. What do I do?
A:This error is caused by twlnf. It has a critical bug that doesn’t properly update the entire NAND after modifying it. This causes certain homebrew (like the Unlaunch installer) to throw an error. Fortunately, this is fixable. Unfortunately, the method to fix it isn’t set in stone, and largely varies from system to system. Generally, deleting any DSiWare installed via twlnf in the past does the job, but make sure you have another homebrew entrypoint available if you delete an entrypoint. It has also been reported that moving all DSiWare to the SD card and back to the system can help in some cases.

Q: Can I install HiyaCFW without Flipnote Studio?
A: No, you will need a hardmod to install HiyaCFW. Follow Gadorach’s hardmodding guide to hardmod your DSi. Previous soldering experience is required.

Q: Can I use an SD card higher than 2GB with HiyaCFW yet?
A: Yes, using TWiLight Menu++. See the Replacing System Menu with TWiLight Menu++ page for more information. Low-level “full” formatting your SD card with a tool like GUIFormat can help as well, but this will not get you around the DSi Menu’s block limit, whereas TWiLight Menu++ does.

Q: Why don’t I see TWiLight Menu++?
A: You’re in SysNAND instead of the SDNAND. The HiyaCFW Helper isn’t applying the CFW’s patches properly, so please wait for a fix in the helper.

Q: Is there a safe way to remove Unlaunch?
A: Yes, Unlaunch v1.5 and higher’s installer can uninstall Unlaunch. Keep in mind that this may result in an irrecoverable brick if you have installed any arbitrary DSiWare to your system NAND, or have otherwise messed with system files.

Q: fuse-3ds fails to launch, or to mount my NAND backup!
A: This can happen for several reasons, but the most common is that your PC is missing Windows Updates that are required for the program to run.

If fuse-3ds shows nothing but a black command prompt screen, just wait a while longer- the program can be slow to start.

If fuse-3ds shows the following error at startup:

The procedure entry point ucrtbase.terminate could not be located in the dynamic link library api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll.

You are missing the following Windows Update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2999226/update-for-universal-c-runtime-in-windows

If fuse-3ds fails to mount with the error message:

Cannot create WinFsp-FUSE file system: unspecified error.

You are missing the following Windows Update: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/3033929.aspx

Both of these updates are several years old. If you’re missing them, it is highly recommended that you enable Windows Update on your machine in order to keep your system updated and secure, and to avoid issues like this in the future.

Yes! Follow dsi.cfw.guide to install HiyaCFW on any firmware version.

When will ugopwn for EUR/AUS and JPN come?
We've been given no release date, but we've been told it's coming soon, which is anytime between now and the heat death of the universe.

Alternatively you can hardmod your DSi and install homebrew via that way, however that requires soldering skills and a stable hand.

So can I run ROMs on my DSi?
Yep, just install SRLoader. The guide above should allow you to install it to your Home Menu. SRLoader allows you to run commercial DS roms, homebrew, and has various emulators preinstalled.

When trying to install Unlaunch, it freezes on "LOADING FAT"
Please read the dsi.cfw.guide FAQ

Can I use an SD card lower than 2GB with HiyaCFW?
Not yet.
One thing that isnt noted is that flip note studio is required which AFAIK you cannot get it anymore unless you previously had it

so my mount failure doesn't give a reason, it just fails. It says the crypt was completed but it just says error: mount failed... I don't know what to do

Whoa, I haven't been on gbatemp in a while. Super awesome it's now possible to get homebrew working with only flipnote studio installed (I'm understanding this correctly, right?). Thanks for the FAQ.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Samsung SD format can sometimes fix them too
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
yes looks like an faulty sd
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    It's always worth a shot
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
  • I @ I-need-help-with-wup-wiiu:
i need help with nusspli failed downloads, can someone respond to my thread? pretty please:wub:
