Just note, removable media cards aside, that it is a very good price when you compare it to some of the GBA carts back in the day which were like $100 for 512Mbit.

But with the cheap price of removable flash cards and quality carts like the R4, it's still kinda obsolete

I'd like to take the opportunity and address a few keynotes given in this Press Release.

PLEASE NOTE
All additional information I write inhere regarding the press release is subject to change - I might be mistaken on one or the other thing.....

I will Update this thread tomorrow when I have final confirmation of my statements. Please take my input with a grain of salt

1) The better Compatibility

The better Compatiblity may mislead you into thinking that it has better Compatiblity then the 4Gb Model. While the compatiblity did improve, it's source lies within DS-Xtreme OS 1.1.1.

DS-Xtreme OS 1.1.1 will be available for the 4Gb Model too and this statement is mostly aimed to say:

"Better Compatiblity then devices from the Competition."

2) Faster Speeds

Faster Speeds is aimed at SD/MicroSD and generally DS Cartridges that come with removable storage using these cards. We did NOT improve the speed on a hardware level (wink wink, notice the hint here?) in comparision to the 4gb model.

3) Added Features

The "Added Features" is again in comparision to competition Cards. However, this does not mean that DS-XtremeOS 1.1.1 will not include new features

4) Conclusion

While a few points in our Announcement were not well put, the 16Gb model will boast the same features as the 4Gb model. The key difference is the size.

Most of the "hints" from this announcement are either in comparision to the competition or "sneak peaks" of DS-Xtreme OS 1.1.1 which will be available for both, the 4Gb (512 MegaByte) and the 16Gb (2 GigaByte) Model.

this is what guru has said about the 16gb model.

just wanted to point out I've made a few skins for the ds-x that have loading times from the health screen to the apps list of about 4 and a half seconds. They just put a lot of bloat in the default one.

but then again if I had the money for it I think I'd get an R4, way too many other problems.

the only thing that will pull this from the hole, (that the team drag it into), is by making a radical new option, (hardly i see any thing comming) like gba rom emu or..... hell i cant even find any new option to pull it out of the hole... sorry like my last post i had on the forum i dont think any thing will come out of them any more . you see on there last update, we got new options that did not help, loading time (on the contrary it take more time after the update to load), they gave us soduko like we need another one (no one was nagging on that, hek no one asked for it), kool new options.... yeah right i tell u what we gana get, a cold sholder thats what. they had the best chip out there but that was then now to release a new chip with no new options (more space dah ) will not justify us shelling that money to wait another 6 month for a new update and hope they will not lie to us again, and again, and again (if any one dare to ask what lies i am taking about go to there news page and read what they say about updates), for that i had to say goodbye to all my friends on that forum. now i'll just stick to what this board has to say bc they know better.

I agree. The DS-X products has always been extremely overpriced. "Unrivaled Leader"? Oh yeah. In price, the DS-X will always be the "Unrivaled Leader".

Not when you can get an R4DS for $40ish and a 2GB MicroSD for as low as $15 (what I paid for mine after rebates) and not have to use a proprietary cable, etc to transfer the ROMs.

Saying you're the best is one thing (makes sense for you to believe in your product), but "unrivaled leader"... give me a break!Â

Err, it's a standard USB Mini B cable. Same thing used for PSP, PS3 controllers, cell phones, etc. Not quite proprietary.

Unless the "new" features include full GBA capability (from the slot-1), or a built-in homebrew web browser that kicks the ever-living-Hell out of Nintendo's, it's just not going to be worth it. It's truly the Macintosh of the DS scene ... in other words, an overpriced, flashy-looking device targeted at newbies too afraid to deal with removeable/upgradeable parts.

I can't believe I almost bought one of these ... I'm so glad I did a bit more reading before I finally landed on the R4.

Now, it could be 32 gigabits, and I still wouldn't bother (at that price). Truly unique, un-matched features (likeGBA rom emulation, near 100% homebrew compatability, built-in EXCELLENT SNES/GENESIS/NES//GAME BOY COLOR emulators (none of which require you to write ROMs to the disk with their own crappy software), etc.) would make me shell out the money, but nothing less than that.

I'm waiting for a MAC fanboy retort.

obviously anyone with a brain will choose R4 over this

To be honest I've stopped using my DS-Xtreme. I got pissed off with the long loading times and sluggish menus. The R4 is quick, cheap and cheerful and now has superior compatibility.

Plus it's easier to skin!

Why would ANYONE buy this? I just don't get it.
for its ease of use.

I'm afraid I broke my DS-Xtreme 4 gbits. I was testing my homebrew browser and, for some reason as I rebooted the DS, the DS-xtreme got somewhat corrupted and it seems to be unrecoverable.
Whenever I insert my DS-Xtreme into my DS and boot my DS, the DS just freezes past the initial warning screen.
And the PC doesn't recognize the DS-xtreme as a mass storage disk.
I used their replacement/temporary drivers, the recovery tool, did a low level formatting, and it didn't help. I could get the DS-xtreme recognized by windows as a storage device, I was able to format it and put anything on it -
but still, when I start my DS with the DS-xtreme inserted, the DS freezes and it corrupts the DS-xtreme again.

Anyway, like shaun I got fed up of the uber slow loading times of the menu, interface, etc. and especially the erratic "instant boot" feature. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't load apps properly (eg. this happened to me a few times: I compiled a build of DShobro, put it on my DS-xtreme, booted the DS, turned the DS off, put a new build of DShobro on the cart, booted the DS and the DS-xtreme would STILL load the OLD build! gah! it's been driving me crazy) and also like 20% of the times the DSxtreme won't start at all, freezing while on the loading screen. GAH so many problems!
and also where is the USB debugging feature? we're still waiting for it...

So, I switched to R4 and so far I must admit I don't regret it.
I bet it's time to change that 9.5 I was whining about....

G6DS won't have Slot 2 expansion pack. It was a rumor. Although you can use EZV 3-in-1 expansion pack with any Slot 1 card.

I agree with most people here, it is overpriced. Hell, the 4Gb version for $100 is very much overpriced itself.

But as I've been using the 4Gb for about 4 months now, I'm quite pleased with it. It does what I want, and I mostly use it for homebrews, which I find the DSX has impeccable compatibility.

I just want the DSX team to improve the cart casing quality. Lucky mine didn't break yet. Secondly, I really wish they will improve the OS loading time. I don't mind simple design, just let it be responsive and fast. If they fix these two issues, I think they will have a decent sell of this new hardware.

But for now, I'm happy with my R4. I don't see myself buying the 16Gb version soon.
