hey all. softmodded my wii with letterbomb on a PNY 8gig sdhc card last week and all went well, til I tried to download jewelquest & it didnt install properly. afterwords I was never able to use the homebrew browser again.. I tried reformatting card, etc, still couldnt make it work, long story short, I got my $ back for it

so I went back & bought another card, identical - I try to run the homebrew browser & I got the error: "failed to receive homebrew list" over and over again

so, I thought I may try to reinstall Letterbomb - I deleted my homebrew channel, and then deleted the old save file from it.

I re-downloaded letterbomb, unzipped, placed on sd card - the calender date is right, the sd card is properly formatted, the mac address is correct - but I can't get letterbomb to appear in my message center.. I've tried everything

the wii is reading the card just fine, it makes the "bloop" noise when you remove/re-insert the card.. I'm not sure what to do. any suggestions?

Let's take this one step at a time.

Homebrew Browser: The server the HBB runs on has been down for like a week or something, so that's why it won't work.

Letterbomb: Did you extract the "private" folder from the zip file onto the root of the sd card? If you're not sure what the "root" of the SD card is, and you're on Windows, think of it like this: every drive has a letter (A:, B:, C:), and say, for example, that your SD card is S:. The "root" of it is S:, and by putting the private folder on the root, it looks like this: S:\private. You'd also put the boot.elf on the root as well, assuming you had the site bundle the Hackmii installer.

Example drive contents:
S:\
S:\private\private\wii\HAEA
S:\boot.elf

If you're absolutely sure the date, time, and MAC addresses were all correct, it must be an SD card issue, whether it's how it's formatted, or how you extracted the files onto it. Can you elaborate more on how you extracted the zip file to your SD card? If you did it by dragging and dropping the contents of the zip file from a program like Winrar, directly to your SD card, perhaps consider extracting it to somewhere like your desktop first, and then dragging and dropping from your desktop to the SD card.

thank you soooooo much ... problem was I hadnt copied "private" to the root, I'd just left it in the letterbomb file. now everything is up & running again! :) you say the HB browser is down - itseems to be coming up for me now, does this mean I can download from it safely yet?

my original problem occurred when I tried to download JewelQuest but it wouldnt finish - and it essentially left my old SD card in ruins (I explained what all happened in the OP )

Hm, it seems to be back up now, so yeah, it's probably safe.

In any case, good to hear that you got it sorted out.

Hey daxtsu! I came across this thread just now and it sounds like you may be able to help me. .. I hope

Quick run-down: I recently installed HBC on my Wii (4.3U) successfully, and what I believe is the correct bootmii file(boot.elf). Althought it did say something about
'CANNOT INSTALL USING boot2;SYSTEM UTILIZE boot1' Or something to that affect.
So far so good.
Next I downloaded, saved to my SD as (E:/apps/homebrew_browser), and successfully installed the browswer to wirelessly find some apps to utilize.
Truth be told I am mainly looking to play DvD's with my Wii so I can use one system for most, instead of having a bunch of crap to have to unplug and plug back in when I want to watch a movie. However, when I went to download and install Mplayer, DvDinstaller, etc.. none of the apps will load correctly. When I open up HBC and click on the App icon and tell it to load, a system message screen comes up with what I am guessing is 'error' codes, or the like.

If you think you may have even the smallest idea as to what part of my system isn't talking/communicating with the other, please please help! I found the HBC download + install to be very quick and easy. I am now STUCK.

Thanks in advance!

Hi JRA!

I think I can help you. First of all, most DVD's won't work on the Wii even with a custom app. Wii's can only output video at 480 p, so the DVD will have to be older/low quality to work. Secondly, WiiMC is the best program to play music/videos. I would suggest ripping the DVD onto your SD or HDD, and simply playing it from there! The movies should be in .avi format. MP4's will work if they are low quality, but sometimes the video is slow. Find and download a program called 'Xilisoft Video Converter'. There is an option on this converter specifically for playing video on the Wii (shows how far soft-modding has come when companies make programs specifically to be used with custom apps). WiiMC can be downloaded on the Homebrew Browser, or you can google it and just put it in the 'apps' folder of your SD card. :yaywii:Hope this helps!

@Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)
