Hacking D2pro 13/15/19 wire + SPI flash on D2B?

I bought this D2pro modchip to mod a friend's D2B Wii but it doesn't seem to work. I guess I should have researched more before buying it but it seems I have an older 13/15/19 wire modchip with the SPI flash added on. The D2pro site says D2B only requires 5 wires to install which I have done but the modchip led stays red and the drive just stutters. The D2pro says only use 5 wires for D2B and 9 for D2C. I emailed the reseller about what firmware is on the modchip and they have no idea. Should I go ahead and do try a 9 wire install anyway on the D2B drive?

I ordered a D2prog also just in case. Do I just use the latest 9-wire firmware from here http://www.d2pro.com/resources.html ?

You probably just need to update the firmware with the 9-wire one. Trying won't hurt because it's fully reprogrammable.

Note: Please refer to the 9-wire installation guide in the resources section as d2pro must be re-wired to operate in 9-wire mode. You must also apply the 9-wire update, delivered by d2prog.
