Banning violent games is retarded, however not properly monitoring and regulating game sales to minors is an issue that still exists.

the op totally put a misleading title. there wasn't a threat to banning video games, it was trying to regulate the sales of such to minors which makes perfect sense but i guess most people didn't read.

'Ere in Australia, though we have strict censorship laws, they're not exactly enforced.

A 5 year old can walk into EB Games (we don't have GameStop) with $100 and say "Hi! I'd like a copy of the latest CoD/GTA/Saint's Row/other MA violent game please". And they'll get the game.

The only censorship law enforced in Australia is "No R rated games".

Kinda sad that people don't understand the difference between banning a game and regulating sales. I personally think that no game should be banned in general (sure there must be some exceptions but anyway), but regulation is something that should be in place everywhere. As stated before, why not sell porn to minors if GTA is appropriate entertainment. Everything is relevant and not everything is about banning games. Censorship is a whole different matter compared to what was ruled in court.
